I can keep listening to Saravanan and his stories all day long. Hats off the Manuel Aaron- the first superstar of Indian Chess. His game against Lajos Portisch from 1962 Stockholm Interzonal is a gem.

Beautiful episode! Manuel Aaron is undoubtedly the bedrock of Indian chess and particularly, Tamil Nadu chess. We owe a great deal of gratitude to Manuel Aaron for the flourishing of Indian chess. Without Manuel Aaron, there would be no Vishy Anand or Praggnanandhaa or Gukesh.

I have had the pleasure of watching Manuel Aaron, Dibyendra Barua, Pravin Thipsay and other greats live in Bangalore, back in the late 80's. I was in college then and watching them was infinitely more interesting than attending boring lectures!

He used to have a publication called Rain Tree publications, where he would locally publish international chess books which were difficult to come by in the 80's and 90's.

Hindu paper may have all the chess articles. And also puzzles by C G S Narayanan of AG's office who may be still alive.

Yes. I used to solve a lot of White to play and mate in two moves a lot. Reader of The Hindu newspaper since 1970...when I first learnt to read English.

Not relevant to the subject matter, but it is interesting to turn on the closed captioning. It is absolutely shi**y. Manuel Aaron's name is mangled every single time -- once it is even rendered as 'nano layer'. All this so called artificial intelligence is just 'rutta' limited to regurgitating American accents. Come on Indians -- you are supposed to be the top at IT -- fix this problem.

Sagar, you cannot even pronounce Aaron correctly. Shameful and insulting
