Sounds great. Providing proper care is taken in construction. In the UK RAAC has been subject to water ingress and corrosion of the steel reinforcement. Not so good in the long term.

Not good! 0 /100 In UK, schools, hospitals and government buildings using AAC structures are being closed or reinforced prior to rectification. buildings with AAC (RAAC) after incidents of collapse or partial collapse. Search the UK news, listen to the radio, or watch the TV to find out for yourself. Cheap at point of installation, expensive at point of repair or replacement.

0:00 construction materials that spontaneously and unexpectedly disintegrate are never a good idea. People will die when you least expect it, which is why we tend to use solid materials with a very low degradation rate for structural parts. Like steel, brick, structural lumber and regular concrete do not spontaneously degrade and will show signs of being compromised (rust, rot etc) *years* before their structural integrity is even compromised. Do not use materials that have a set limit on their lifespan for constructive purposes.

Some World War relics are still being dismantled, and the rusty bars in the concrete are surrounded by still-curing cement, which is incredibly brittle offering high tensile strength when used right. RAAC in my understanding is so removed from my idea of a good building material, is criminal to think of it as viable. But who cares? RAAC Its chalk block. If it was concrete, it would have an aggregate in it. Unless hydrated lime and portland cement and air is such. It will harbour moisture by its inherent nature/design. Weak cement/lime bubbles. How it made the mark is mind blowing imo. There were some sweeteners on those deals that had everything to do with profit. Oh it's more than apparent the planned obsolescence is very big 'sustainable investment plan', for the crooks selling it, and the buyers. All too often, it is the construction process that is to blame. Old good stone and timber is wasted because some engineering formula is unobtainable (in spite of its clear and present strength and integrity), and to assess the materials with test facilities is also unviable - according to industry. Insurance and liability understand that too, because there is a 'paper trail'. Yet, the insulation company that sold flammable cladding to conveniently lose data 'paper trail' in the courtrooms... >obfuscation< I just can't believe the investment in utter stupidity to build a flat roof with chalk. That is blind, stupid corporate psychopathic greed. ''Investment in the future'' they say. Fuck them. Their investment procedure has a cost feature they would call 'collateral', but we call life. I wonder what asset management firms cash in on here? Shows you that around the table, nobody gave a shit to learn to know what materials would be used without bullshit sprinkles.

Perhaps the worst aspect is that it is impossible to repair, regular concrete can be patched when there is a bit of rot, but not this stuff. Once it goes the whole thing is done for. You may want to look into gyproc blocks as a replacement solution.

@petergregory5286

This stuff is crap. The trouble with this concrete is that over time it allows rain into the reinforcement steel which corrodes,expands and destroys the product. In the UK at this present time we are having to close or partially close schools, hospitals and even parts of Heathrow Airport because of the failures of this product. Repairs are being hindered by the presence of asbestos because the danger of this product wasn’t recognised at the time. Regards

This was a known (predicted) problem since the early 50s. All you have to do is additionally protect the steel frame. Why Brits would believe this is beneath them in their humid climate is anyone's guess, but you can't blame the material for shoddy engineering work. Also, only floors and roofs require steel reinforcements. Those can be built with heavy concrete if need be, and the walls from aerated blocks.
