It's funny, I find young Anderson even more fascinating now, knowing he was jacked on coke back in those days. At least all that drug fueled bravura made it to the screen. It's also a little comforting knowing he is human and had to 'medicate' himself as he adjusted to fame and acclaim. It's one thing being quietly confident and self assured, but quiet another when those around also acknowledge the fact that you are probably the best at what you do.

@ylowknfe3 жыл бұрын
It sounds like you're holding Sandler to a standard he neither cares for nor strives for because, while he IS a capable and deft dramatic actor, he LOVES making silly movies with his friends. P.T and Sandler are very similar in that they value families, especially surrogate families and largely work within those self-generated structures. Look at both their bodies of work; P.T is known for working with a host of the same actors ie. Philip Seymour Hoffman (RIP) Philip Baker Hall, John C. Reilly, Luis Guzman, etc. AS IS Sandler in his Happy Madison productions with Allen Covert, Peter Dante, John Mcloughlin, Nick Swardsen, Rob Schneider. They've both created worlds for themselves and value those worlds as both creative outlets and sources of inspiration and growth. Sandler loves his comedy and a career of working in primarily dramatic pictures obviously doesn't appeal to him. Some of his most revered work are his irreverent comedies and you can tell THAT is his happy place. He picks his dramatic work very selectively and I think it can be said that the MAJORITY of those dramatic performances were lauded, well acted, and almost certainly the manifestation of his consciousness at the time. P.T is the same way; he wrote the bones of Boogie Nights during a hugely transitory time in his life, and later expounded on it after the modest success of his first film Sydney. Magnolia came right after both the death of his father Ernie AND his mentor Robert Ridgely and manifested as a sprawling family drama, and perhaps his most epically-human work. There is a reason these two worked so well together and made something so unique and true; they both value their created worlds and are never so self-conscious as to betray their truths for some 'unerring' body of work. They make what they LOVE, Sandler especially. And to boot, P.T's inspiration for working with Sandler came from a scene from one of those "shitty" movies (Big Daddy) where Sandler informs his on-screen father that he's going to adopt over a phone call.

I enjoyed Rose's interview but he would often talk too much as if people wanted to hear his thoughts. We are there to hear your guests - no cares about what you have to say. Just ask the right questions. Also Rose would come across as trying to be one of the guys, like he was friends with his guests. Which he was not. Finally - It would have been nice here if he stopped fawning over Sandler and let the great PTA speak more. Unbalanced intervoew.
