Pablo Casals is my great uncle. I cannot express how much it means to be able to hear his words and thoughts in his own voice. He inspires me as a musician and beyond.

A million thanks to KZbin for making precious interviews like this accessible to the entire world. As an ardent Pablo Casals fan for my entire life, for his cello playing and his humanitarian endeavors and expressions, this is a fantastic gift for cellists like me and non-cellists alike.

That old recording he plays for her after 11"20, highest level cello playing ever. Tone control, vibrato control, glissandi control, out of this world singing quality. The quality of his bowing, he could teach everyone.

My old cello teacher, Alexander Kok, was a student of Don Casals. I have a photostat of his markings of the cello suites that he used for practice. Very emotional to hear from "the old man"(as Bobby Kok used to call him) himself and identify things passed down through his student. What a great humanitarian too, I had no idea. ❤️

Mendelssohn did not discover Bach. Bach's solo violin sonatas were published in 1803. Mendelssohn's great aunt Sarah Levi was the greatest harpsichordist of her day.

Pau Casals not Pablo Casals... Please say the name right, it is PAU CASALS
@loloforge28413 жыл бұрын
Well the name Pau pronounced in Catalan, but in castellano was pronounced Pablo (that’s why some people refer to him that way). He made a huge history in North America as well and established himself and died in Puerto Rico and during his time there he was called Don Pablo Casals. And that’s the name he used. All the monuments, Symphonic Orchestra and academies have his name in Puerto Rico as Don Pablo Casals.
@lluiscalvet3293 жыл бұрын
I know he spent a lot of time abroad but honestly I am sure you know that personal names are not translated.
@loloforge28413 жыл бұрын
@@lluiscalvet329 He allowed that. He approved it himself, so that’s how it goes. Many places carry his name that way.

@revelalmighty75464 жыл бұрын
Pau, Pablo, Paul, Paolo - are all variants of the same name, Pau is the catalan variant.and Pablo is the castilian version. Castilian is also referred as standard spanish. He lived his final years and died in Puerto Rico where he is a considered an adoptive son, because his mother was born in the island and for all his great contributions. Founder of the Puerto Rico Symphony orchestra and Conservatory of Music. He is honored every year with the Pablo Casals Festival in San Juan. A True Genius...
