Manu... I'm a 2D artist for over 7 years now, I don't have a graduation or anything, but I've been studying art and I actually am beginning to develop my own webcomics (doing original characters reference sheets, brainstorming ideas, writing scripts, etc.), and I hope it can also become an animation someday if I get enough help. Your video just made my day and is giving me strength to follow my dreams, it just gives me back childhood memories when I first watched the Secret of Nihm on the TV screen with my grandmother. I truly hope to make this a reality. Thanks for sharing. ♥

I actually got a real Cats Don't Dance vibe from it personally. The way the animation of the characters flowed and how they incorporated lighting so heavily into the scenes. Either way it really is Studio level of quality and I hope for the best for the series.

The Jungle Book and The Fox and the Hound are considered Dark Age Disney and not Golden Age. Only Bambi is but I think it’s better to compare it to Pinocchio or Dumbo as both have drinking scenes and since both have furries that are anthropomorphic instead of feral.

I agree that we need more cartoons that are shifting towards the young adult audience. There’s been too many cartoons that either are too silly or too childish. Mulan was a great example of environmental and character progressive storytelling. And this gave me a very similar vibe of crackly pretty lights with mature undertones. The perfect balance.
@luvblueybingoheeler3150
@luvblueybingoheeler3150 Жыл бұрын
That depends on how you define mature. Some define a mature show that teaches kids about death (in age appropriate way). Some may define it has having blood and cussing in it. I go by the former.

The fact they managed to animate such complex characters! Usually animated characters have easy to recreate shapes because your going to have to draw them 1000s of times but these characters are so stylized I thought it would be impossible to keep them on model! And yet not only does freckle look exactly like he did in the comics wedge shaped cheek fluff and all but all the characters are so fluid and expressive!

Within the first few mins I was blown away by the passion that was jumping out of the screen and the pleasant surprise of seeing you and some more of my favorite animators in the credits. It's sad to see projects like this being too risky for studios to fund in the modern day, but the success story of this pilot from the dedication of the crew to the crazy support from the fans has me hopeful. this show is fucking inspiring. its a beacon for anyone that wants to seriously pursue their art career. With all the doom and gloom in the industry currently taking hold I think its important to realize that if we want our art to leave an impact and keep making these projects we need to look out for each other and create a community that matters. Big corporations or a mayority of the public might dismiss our contributions as artists as meager or unimportant but as long as there are people that have a vision and care about telling stories you will have a place to belong. I know we tend to be lofty dreamers that shut themselves off in their room to sketch away at stuff alone for days - but if there ever was a time to actually look for other people to share your projects with and work together... its now. cheers folk!

I even though I don't hate any big production companies or Studios but yeah I've been feeling like the animation industry has been like that as of late ever since I feel like the merger ( I don't want to speak about it that was a very long time ago we kind of forgot about it) and although we want to say earlier Infinity train ( no hay to anyone but I was annoyed by the hashtag that you want to renew the show) hopefully in a few years or time it will be more happier and maybe bring back some old projects that died off or something hey maybe the big production companies would listen to us ( although I've been on the least likely part but it's better than just killing them off sometimes I don't really like it I don't really like killing off company sometimes it doesn't really feel right)

This this this!!! This is exactly what I loved about my graphic design college class; the open environment, being allowed (and encouraged!!) to wander and peek over your classmates' shoulders, ask them what they're working on, see their process, show off your own, it was one of the best learning experiences I ever had. And it made me SO disappointed to realize real graphic design jobs are nothing like that. My first attempt, I never got to see the stage before or after my input- I was completely isolated from the end goal and so I always felt like I was doing something wrong, unsure if my work was any good because I was only able to view it in a vacuum. I've always heard of film studios being the same way, where the actors don't get to mingle with sound design, the costume designers don't get to work with lighting, etc. It creates this weird disconnect where the project director is left to fit all the pieces together when each piece isn't quite sure what shape it's meant to be... but wow, no wonder the pilot looked so ridiculously good, everyone was able to see where everyone else's work was at, and adapt their own accordingly! I'm rambling but- stunning work dude, thank you for making this video and your hard work on the pilot!

All of this sounds so sweet! But also hearing that work process that sounds dang near ideal! Like you can always get feedback from others anywhere in the production line to help make your work as good as it can be, you can get so much inspiration from one another, all the way from the leads to the individual animator, and seemingly allows both for better communications, as well as more opportunities for experimentation, and just good work vibes all around! There's likely no way this could work in a mainstream big studio pipeline sadly, but this whole cooperative work flow where every member can contribute and help both the project and eachother just sounds amazing to work in, and helped make the project unleash its full potential!

Listening to this video gave me such a warm feeling in my belly. Over the past 2 years, I've been part of a project called 'The Animation Coven' that aimed to do an animated fan episode for 'The Owl House'. Initially, I started as a voice actor, but eventually moved up to being the Producer of the entire project. We realized around half way through the project that we needed to scale down our scope to only make a 20 minute animatic because our team was only around 20-30 people and we had a budget of 0€. Multiple times it looked like the project was going nowhere as lives of our production team got busy and the crew kept getting smaller and smaller but in the end, we pulled through. Having gone through all of that experience has given me even more respect for everyone involved in big creative projects like animation. The doubts, the all-nighters, the successes, the difficulties and the fun. Hearing your description of the Lackadaisy team, it seems like an absolute dream to work on and I'm just sooooo happy that such work environments exist and that such a great product can be lucrative. Multiple times during your descriptions, I've made comparisons to how our production went on Discord and got flashbacks to a lot of memories formed there. Cheers to you and all of the Lackadaisy team. You did phenomenal work!

I'm currently around 17 years old and have landed my first job in an indie animation company. As a child, I always dreamed of making Disney films and thought to myself, 'Wow, I want to do this!' Recently, I received my first paycheck, and it was amazing. Working with the company has been an incredible experience! However, I've been struggling with imposter syndrome lately, so seeing this video has helped me get onto my feet again. Watching more indie animations has made me want to start my own animation company in the future. Cant wait to see more animations on KZbin!

I love that in the pilot instead of the frech woman(I can't remember the name) used a browning automatic rifle(B.A.R.) instead of the stereotypical Thomas submachine gun(Tommie gun). While not only does it look the same amount of cool or even cooler it is still historically accurate. Great work. I can't wait for the first season

It’s projects like this that get me more motivation for the project I’m doing right now. It’s a short series with only a few others working on it, but we’re having fun and so far I think it looks good. But it’s projects like this that remind me that you don’t need to be picked up by a tv program to make something really cool!!

As someone who has had this beautiful idea for a story in my mind for several years now, I hope that in the future, when I can work on those type of things, that I am able to do it like this! I honestly wish there was more animation and story like this, I admire it so much (even though I am only 14).

as an animation student that's currently going through some very rough times, this video was really, really helpful. these last few months I've been feeling down, thinking that maybe I'm not good enough, or that I'm not made for working in the animation industry. But watching the Lackadaisy pilot was very inspiring, and it's the fist animation in months that has made me feel motivated, the same motivation I always had when wishing of participating in an animated project like this. I really don't want to give up, I want to improve and overcome the harder times and learn from them, and I also want to see that kind of 'competition' between animators as a positive, rather than a negative. Thank you so much for making this video, and thanks to everyone who worked on Lackadaisy for inspiring thousands of people around the world.

I tried animating on procreate… never doing that again. I am so grateful to the patient artists who dedicate so much time to animation… I’d love to be a character designer or storyboard artist for some hand drawn animated show or movie though. At 12:15 the emotions hit me hard. I can relate to the feelings you were experiencing and being supported by Fable and the rest of the team was just such a nice thing to hear about. This is really wholesome.

I find the idea that "you wont make it without big names" extremally relatable. As a writer, I have found it really really hard to find work, help, and those willing to give my work a chance. I'm just not big enough and don't have any influence. It makes things really hard, especially without help. I hope one day I get given a chance to shine, get a good job, and to meet such amazing people and co workers. This project shows that maybe I will get that chance, I just have to meet the right people.

Beginner level 3D modeler here, hoping to eventually figure out environment design and then 3d animation in order to achieve my artistic goals of some kind of animated series. Becoming part of a team, one of many working on a project, does seem like the way to kick off your career as a legitimate artist. For now the future is uncertain, and I can only try to steadily work towards the skills to make some moderately popular online animations, one day at a time. Also as a side note in the process of going to watch the pilot I figured out and resolved the reoccurring fear and apprehension that had been constant whenever I considered watching an animation, so the team gets maybe a little credit for that.

It's silly, but your story of how you got hired actually made me get emotional. I'm 25 and I gave up drawing and learning animation when I was about 15, due to family pressure among other things. And I dunno! Knowing that we're in this era where we have access at home to the kinds of programs that allow us to make gorgeous animated sequences like your graduation film? It makes me so happy. The barrier to entry has lowered. It makes me feel like that if I picked up art again, that maybe some day I could still do something with it. With so much gorgeous indie animation out there, it doesn't feel impossible that I could do it for real some day. Anyway. Great video, I didn't hear about the comics prior to the pilot, so it was cool to get more background on how this all happened. The pilot was amazing and I'm hoping you have many future successes!!

I don't really know what, but, this flame will probably die in 2-3 hours. Cuz I will start overthinking everything and then remember that I can't draw. Still, very good video man, I loved it.
