I’m fascinated by the use of poo based substrate over coir and sterilization over pasteurization any substrate. I did not know you could use so little of a percentage of grain spawn!!! I understand the nutritional value of poo over the extra grain. What is the colonization time with this ratio? Do you just break up the bag and go to the tub once colonized?

For wood Loving mushrooms like oysters I use a totally different recipe containing wood shavings, wood pellets, wheat bran and gypsum. I'll do a new video on that soon 😊

Nice video. Thanks. Staples work pretty well for 'sealing' the bags when pressure cooking. I just roll the very top over on itself like 4 times and staple it like 6 times on the rim.

Use a 2" paddle bit on a drill, drill a few holes, and soak for an hour. I've never done this, but it seems like it would be a lot easier than breaking the bricks by hand.

I note that when introducing the grain spawn to the substrate bags you did not wear gloves, didn't use alcohol and put your fingers inside the bags. Do you have any problems with contamination?

I'm glad someone asked! I used to always wear gloves and I felt like they were harder to keep clean than my hands. To keep things rolling in the video, I sometimes edit out the part where I scrub down with rubbing alcohol. I clean up every time my hands leave the clean air or touch anything unsterile. No contamination.

Most likely get bacillus or high probability that the LC stalls. I tried one time with 30 bags and 1 reached colonization before getting contam. The more inoculant the better chance to digest all before competition.

Hit up a rancher with horses most of the time they will let you come and shovel as much as you want. I had one even deliver one time. 50lbs of horse manure.

Looks like your substrate is awfully dry. I never saw you check for proper saturation with the tried and true squeeze test.
