I'm a Full Sail Alumni I graduated in April of this year, 2019. This obviously is an old video and policies have most likely changed since this comment and the video. Anyone that worries about this school your classes are lined up for you now. At least in the case of Game Design Bachelor degree program. However, this school will kick you ass nonstop work with only about 5 weeks off a year. Yeah, it's brutal. However, if you can get through this you make it in the industry because this university is cheap and doesn't pull any punches

He didn't want to spend 4 years in school. He wants to be out there in the real world and start his career! This School is not for the weak, that's for sure. They call this a "real world" school. One MASSIVE Con that you missed is that Full Sail University is NOT a regionally accredited university. They are a commercial, for-profit college. This means that, if you have dreams of one day going on to further your education in an MFA program at one of the top film schools in the country, like USC, UCLA, AFI, etc., those schools WILL NOT accept your Full Sail University credits. This means that you will have to go back and start all over again in a legitimate school.
@Manzmanny
@Manzmanny 6 жыл бұрын
There’s not regionally accredited but they are national accredited. I know some big schools do not accept credit but others do. That was def one that I learned about a couple weeks ago. Cause I wanted to apply to NYU for a masters... So yeah, if you plan on going to one of the established schools for your masters, it def sets up for a problem but not one that a little education and planning might help with. If it’s too late then all I can say is make the most out of what you got, pursue your career and be damn good at what you do with what you learned and one day chase that masters or know the full scope of things. Like you do. Thank you for this comment 🙌🏽

Full Sail is nationally accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges (ACCSC). That's why most people coming into the business start off with a BS with plans on being an independent entrepreneur. Just because the school isn't regionally accredited, doesn't mean it will never be. Most of the right minds don't even come into this industry because they know how hard it is to become rich or famous but I bet if they did and fought for the school, then we all would be on our way to success. I got here now and I'm at the very end of my first course of Creative Presentation. Even though I had to leave my job, I did so for the benefit of as close to perfect grades as possible. There's a lot of reasons why I feel like this school is only nationally accredited but one of the main reasons is because they are for profit. The other is because a lot of foreign people leave their country to come to Full Sail or they are online students and they like it there. Not a whole lot of people are taking a risk at National accreditation verse regionally unless they are more independently driven.

Graduated in 2009 from Game Development as the Advanced Achiever. I was offered a job at my dream company of Paragon Studios to work on City of Heroes after I finished, but ultimately turned it down to put four amazing years in at EA Sports. My class was the first and (I think) only one to have ever successfully created an engine for all the Final Project games. I've been meaning to make a video like this, but a lot of what you say is very true. One of the primary issues with education in general is that you're not taught core, life skills such as time management, financial planning, long term goal setting, etc. You figure these things out with real world job experience, which is why a lot of people like yourself say to take a year or two to explore the field you're thinking about getting into. It def helps and puts a lot more of what life is really like into perspective. Entertainment is an amazing field and it's fun and full of incredibly passionate and hard working individuals at the highest levels. If you're not ready to kill yourself with the demands that this school puts on you both academically, physically and mentally, don't do it. Only the serious get to the end, and even then, only a few of those actually get to go work in the industry they want. Whatever dream company you want to work for after you leave is going to be near impossible to get into unless you know people there and have networked, or your skills are so insane that they want you there. I've seen both cases and I've seen the standard, "I'll move to and I'll figure it out!" I rarely see people do and it's not for a lack of opportunity, just capability and drive more than anything. If you're not planning to hustle and standout, and I mean REALLY standout, you're going to be one of the many that wants to get in, but can't. There is no story of success in entertainment that doesn't show someone going through absolute hell to get to the next level. Stuff doesn't just magically happen and you don't just randomly get opportunities. If someone told you otherwise, they are straight up lying to you and stop hanging out with them. You'll find that mentality in Full Sail and you would do well to steer clear of it. Finally, remember that all schools are businesses. They want your money, donations after you graduate and want to keep you there for as long as possible via loans or any other financial instrument they might offer. Full sail offers some incredibly easy loans to get started if you really want to go there, which is a plus, but know what you're signing up for. Entertainment is an amazing field and it's fun and full of incredibly passionate and hard working individuals at the highest levels. The success stories of some people from Full Sail are absolutely mind blowing. After EA, I founded my own entertainment company, a transportation company, a drinking board game that I sell on Amazon and I studied social media marketing and eSports before they blew up because I'm a visionary and I'm always forward looking. I realized a lot of the projects I want to initiate, and the people I want to fund and support, required a lot of capital. So, I got into finance as an analyst for the last 3.5 years trading stocks and running an investment fund. Full Sail's insanely demanding schedule and work ethic are part of what helped me get to where I am now. So the hype is real if you're trying to use it as a base to launch yourself as an individual and professional, but you need to be ready to go through one of the hardest things you'll ever do in your life. Thank you Manz for trying to spread some knowledge and insight like a true alumnus that gives back to the community. Best of luck with all your endeavors, cheers.

Full Sail is actually a pretty amazing school. They are very professional, uphold very high standards for ALL of their students, and they go out of their way to make sure every student is taken care of. Yes, it is challenging in a lot of ways, but it's worth it if you actually put forth the effort. They were willing to work with me despite the personal outside of school issues I was having. They never once denied me help just because those outside issues impacted my schooling. And yes, the programs are expensive. But you're working with top of the industry software and hardware as well as professionals who actually know the material. There are many successful people who started at Full Sail. Not everyone is able to make it through, and that can be for any reason.

@RandomImaginings Жыл бұрын
"For any reason". When starting at Full Sail, I had saved roughly 9k from working a minimum wage job that I was hoping would be a decent backbone after I took out government loans for going to college. Under the impression that college would work like my high school AP courses (or even regular school curriculum for what I am about to say), I thought that if I failed a course or was showing results that were unsatisfactory to the school, I would have to retake it until I understood/showed passing grades. I failed a class while asking the instructor (not professor, god forbid you call them that online) for help constantly the entire month. I was told to ask other students for help and that learning Blender did not require help from the "university's" staff teaching the curriculum. When I continued asking for assistance, slowly my emails and calls were left unanswered or ignored. I was pushed on to the next courses even after continuously failing,so long as one requirement was met. If I paid that month's expenses for the school outside what the government had loaned me, than FSU would keep pushing me through each month without a care if I was actually learning. I've lost more than 20k in between bills and loans I'm still paying off, no diploma because I had to drop out when I went bankrupt and FSU just kept asking for money while telling me I hadn't shown up for classes that I was no longer apart of because I lacked experience/schooling while not having the income to pay them off. Long story made short, Full Sail has had an expectation of you to continue on with their online courses, and if you fail, who cares so long as you are moving on to the next course and paying them. Two years after having to drop out they were still asking me to come back, saying I could start over and begin from the first course, meanwhile anytime I brought up the issue of not getting help or becoming the next month's new instructor's "problem", I was met with smiles and an expectation to give more money to further an education they couldn't give a fuck about if it didn't show profit. I'm glad if this wasn't your experience. But for me, this was my first five years out of high school, the time and money I had earned to go to school taken and nothing to show for it but an Apple computer I ended up giving to my sister so she could continue her college career, years after mine felt dead and stolen. There are better places to go that cost much less and don't fall under such shady business.

Ultimately I admire Full Sail university for it's high standards and professionalism. Especially when it comes to their more technical classes. (I signed up to take a course in Video Game Design) However their time management just didn't fit well with how I require my time to pace things, as stated it's a 2 year college that shoves 4 years total into the mix, and yeah the transition from High School to Full Sail is no joke, you have to be on your A game if you expect any sort of results, it's like the real world. I had to switch to another University Online because the school does a lot to accommodate my time manage and help with what I need, and it really fit all of what I needed to survive in college, whereas Full Sail lacked. I wouldn't lie and say I missed Full Sail at times because their professionalism is on point and I admire a lot of the work that comes from them. Not to say I don't love where I'm at now either. I does go to show, professionalism does matter, but what matters to the person can vary a college you may look up to just might not have the right management for you.

If your an online student make sure you keep in contact with each instructor, especially when there are things you are stuck on. Keep a portfolio and Organized each class in an Folder by class and week. Each class should have its own folder and inside each class you create 4 folders week 1-4. I feel you. I had the exact same experience. University first, got on probation because I didn't really know what direction to take in life. Then went to a CCC. I regretted that I didn't do better in my 4 yrs Columbia College Chicago. Got the Bachelor with dean's list 3.8 GPA. Television production. But I wish I could have put more time and effort in MY WORK than half-assed. Then went Full Sail. Finished it at 2001. Computer Animation. I feel now that I could have done better. I enjoyed teaching there more as a Lab Instructor. When I was young, I thought post production was creative and fun. Now older, in the real world, you'd be a button pusher for many sitting hours overtime without extra pay. The biggest long term regret was I wasn't thinking about my health. Sitting for 8-12 yours straight to finish. Eye strains, back pains, neck pains, from the body pains lead to depression. Why didn't they think of standing desks back then? It was $28,000 back then, can't believe it's $75,000 now. Take advantage of every bit of your time and money. It's not a place to chill. At first I thought your video was another regular video, but it turned out pretty truthful and real. I think teaching was more enjoyable but now the skills are different in the rel world. I am glad that FS has a program where you can audit your classes later in life after you graduated. it's been over 17 years now. And they still let me re-audit.

Fantastic video, man! This is absolutely, 100% the truth. Fantastic school, but come here when you are ready. Don’t come looking to party! This school is super hard work, far harder than you might imagine, but the most rewarding kind of super hard. Just make sure you know the difference between “loving” something, and being “passionate” about something...so when someone asks you why you spent 15 hours straight doing homework, you can say “Honestly, I have no freaking idea.” If you can do that, you are ready, and you will love busting your ass and applying yourself fully. But like the awesome video said: Get what you need to get out of your system first, and prepare to hit the ground running. And while you might not have much/any free time, the time you have and the friends and colleagues you meet will be the best you’ll ever meet, and you will have fun AND work together...usually both at the same time. And that’s the most likely way to eventually get a career out of chasing your dream. Full Sail gives you the keys, but you gotta apply yourself and work on your own 5x more than what the “basic requirements” ask of you. And that’s passion. Because you WANT TO BE EXHAUSTED working for something with everything you’ve got. And the school will be straight with you and work as hard as they can to make it happen. But the balls in YOUR court, to turn it into a career through hard work and dedication, blood, sweat, and tears. They teach you a career, not promise you one. But you’ll have the tools if you have the drive. If that sounds up your alley, then buckle down and start down the path 🙂 Oh, and reach out to any students or staff as you can as often as possible! Hell, I’m in Game Design. If you have any questions, any at all, feel free to hit me up. 🙂

I'm there now but I am an online student and mom so I do understand what you saying. This is something you really got to be passionate about when you first starting. I thought Full Sail would be a good fit for me because of the the Game Art program and Project Launch Box Program as well. I just liked the fact they help you out with the equipment even though it comes out of your tuition. I'm not sure where my journey will end but I hope it where I want to be. Ayo brother I appreciate this vid... I seen other videos about this school from other peeps saying it's a waste of time... I'm 26 now and want to pursue my passion in music.. I always loved making music beats etc but never had the confidence to do so because I'd never had the support. Grew up around gangs and drugs and my parents were abusive and neglecting. when I was Fresh out of high school I didn't know what I wanted to do so I Spend 3 years in a university in Cali Sacramento..i wasn't feeling the school kus I had to survive, needed money and was living the streets life while going to school. My mentality was all about money so I left the university and started a company for 4-5 years managing a couple contractors.Eventually that didn't worked out and I was constantly fighting money or my passion. I just applied for full sail today and all in with it. All I can think about is music and making beats. I've been thru managing skills, time management, living on my own and had so much money but nothing makes more excited then just making music. So I'm asking a brother...and from what I seen in this video...I believe I made the right choice. But from your experience do you think I made the right choice in picking the right school.

I just found this video after enrolling at Full Sail. I graduated high school 16 years ago, and started my bachelor's 12 years ago with a few different colleges. I turn 35 next month and know now what I've known all along, my talent is in graphic arts and design; I'm finally able to pursue it. The line you said about figuring out your niche and what you REALLY want to do is 100% spot on. Its taken me a lot of years and a lot of missteps, but that's okay. I have an artistic identity and path now, so I feel a heck of a lot better about stepping into Full Sail as a 35 year old vet than I ever did as an 18 year old kid. Thanks for the encouragement brother.

Long message from someone who didn't go to Full Sail University: A few years ago, when I had to commit to the college I went to, I honestly wanted to go to Full Sail because I wanted to make movies. All things considered, I am glad that I just went to a community college then transferred to a local university. I ended up majoring in business management, but this is probably for the best because I'm kinda OCD and I couldn't handle being full-time every semester because I like taking my time with each class. However, I STILL have that urge to make movies. I remember when I was on the fence about going for my BA in Business management, my brother mentioned I should go to Full Sail, but I realized I couldn't afford to go there at that point (especially since I had just gotten my associates in business). Ultimately, I decided I might be better off just getting the bachelor's in business (which I just completed last week) and seeing if I could meet up with some people who knew what they were doing and work on some low-budget films with them as a sort of apprentice. I wasn't sure what the best way was of reaching out to aspiring filmmakers and seeing if anyone filming a low or micro-budget film needed help. Any tips would be welcome.

Hey Perditus, great comment. I got some advice for you. Sometimes life has weird twists and turns but it all leads to your destination. Just gotta stay hungry, keep the faith and find things along the way. Look out for any events that will have people in your industry in attendance. Find the film festivals and meetups, go around and network with these people. Save up some money, start recording your own films, if you can't get a camera, use a phone. You can learn your style, practice your craft and build a demo reel, this will help you to be able to get your name around. You really just have to work on your craft and go where the people are. The rest will come together. Best of luck bro.

Luckily, the teachers here seem to be really friendly and are always willing to answer any questions you have and they will work with you. You have to work really hard here, but if you really love what you are doing, it won't feel too much like work.

So far I have found it to be a little slow paced for my personal liking. If I could double up and cut the time in half I would, but ya know that's life. Overall though I am enjoying it and think it's well designed. I really appreciate the fact that assignments have purpose and real word skills. They are not just credit fillers. Having little time off is fine with me , in fact I would be happy just going straight through everything myself.

I don't know whether to like or dislike this video cause you seem kind of bi-polar about whether or not this place is great to attend. You basically are saying don't come to the school until you are ready and know what you want and can put up with the untraditional schedule. The title shouldn't necessarily be why you shouldn't go there but what do you need to know before you enroll completely to start your first semester. I go here now and it's definitely a fun thing I've got going on and I love how I am nailing it with great grades. I had to quit my job in order to keep up with this first class so it shows how serious you need to be in order to be a part of this community so you were right about saving up some money for people who aren't about to work at the same time or don't have a rich family. With my luck, I am on social security and that's what is helping me pay my rent and utility until I graduate and get into the workforce.

Up until watching your video, I regretted not going to this school right out of HS, but now I feel better that I didn't jump to this school so soon. Similar story with me, except the reverse. I went to a 2 year college, ended up staying in there for about 2.5 years, working on my associate's. I didn't get my degree, I am 2 credits away, I do plan to return someday, but thing is I was pretty much thinking I passed, walked the stage and everything for my family, but eventually learned I had failed the one course that was required. Sad day, since the remaining credits I was going to complete over the summer. So I thought, "Well, this is my second probation, it would be a year til I come back to finish (as I didn't want to lie on my second appeals letter, because really I had no excuse for failing), so what are my options?" I felt at that time if I didn't stay in school, I would not ever feel the desire to come back once "life" came in and made my daily routine too busy. So I decided to transfer to a 4 year, which is very similar to FSU as it is accelerated. I took game development there, which was close to where I lived and woudn't be too expensive tuition-wise. The reason I am still not there is they decided that my area no longer had a demand for game development graduates so my school decided to "teach out" the current enrolled students, and the professors tenures were only going to last maybe 9 months-2 years tops. Any class failed, you weren't in the program anymore. You can see where I'm going here. Honestly, my advice, like in the video: Don't be afraid to wait it out, to get your shit together, so that way you don't end up pulling out so many loans that you're no longer able to take out Stanfords (like me). Your life may get a bit busy if you do take a break, but if you are serious about furthering your education I think you'll find the motivation to try to go back and pursue your dreams.

I did a month of a 2 year community college straight out of high school. I moved all the way across the country all alone and it was terrifying. I started having anxiety and panic attacks to the point where I got physically sick. I missed so much class that I was about to fail out. My mom flew out to see me, and decided I was done. I withdrew from all my classes and moved back home. This was about 6 months ago. My biggest problem was being away from home and not really making friends. My only friends were internet friends from England. So now, here I am. I've spent the past 6 months struggling with motivation and depression. I think its best for me to be with my family so I am thinking about Full Sail's online program. My biggest struggle in school was the daunting amount of time it would take to even get my community college degree before transferring to a 4 year school. Knowing how many years and classes I had ahead of me was terrifying. I did homeschooling so I know what its like to do an online school and I believe that is the best option for me. So with that I am thinking about doing the online video game design degree. I think my first step is going to be starting to do some freelance work online to get a decent amount of money saved. From there I plan on starting the degree program. I think the different classes each month schedule will be great for me. Knowing its a short class is so much easier than the stress of 3-4 month classes. I just want to say thank you so much for this information!

Currently in my third year of college in a business administration school studying computer science, thinking of changing to full sail starting on august (first taking credits they might count so I can start directly into music) I've read a lot of mixed reviews and heard a lot of mixed feedback so I'm not sure whether it be a great investment for me to go and study in full sail university. I've already been producing well over five years and made solid tunes (found on this very channel) so I wouldn't be going in blind to this school. The main reason I thought about full sail is that I want to truly expand my knowledge in music production for various genres and styles as well as learn how to do more than just write a track on a computer. I have already saved up a bit for those first few months as mentioned in the video because I already have the college experience and know-how it is. Is there a way we could chat and help me get a more clear understanding of some questions I might have?

I’m thinking about studying either production, editing or something with sound. Where are most graduates heading after graduation? Atlanta? Also with being out in the real world for a few years now, I understand the freelance life

May I ask, in what way or strategy did you pay for the tuition? I have been freaking out because Im a junior, and Im still clueless about some knowledge about colleges. Im not as good at strategizing thing about money either.

Its been two years since ive graduated high school and trust me i thought i was ready to jump into full sail ASAP. ive been doing community college since graduating and thinking about whether or not im ready for full sail. Come this june 3rd i will be attending full sails online program but im only doing so because ive been able to adjust from having a set schedule put out for me to a 24/7 changing schedule that i plan for myself. What this guy is saying is no joke. If you cant change consistently you gotta learn how to before attending this school.

I am a 2 time alumni (Computer Animation Associates, Entertainment Business Bachelor's) I didn't see any reasons not to go. just be aware that like he said a new class every month which means: a midterm and final every 2 weeks! not to mention the school is 24hrs. so you may get a class at 1am -4am and a lab 4am-8am! that sucks when you are at the bar or club and just when you are starting to talk to a girl you are like peace out have to go to class! ahhhh! not to mention the schedules change every month so it is almost impossible to hold a job! so if your plan is to work and go to school, get a loan, you wont be working. I did bounch a few nights a week at wall street in downtown Orlando and I taught martial arts (all when my schedule allowed) I also did security at fullsail (that's your best option if they have openings)

I agree with this. Even I graduate with a valedictorian. They didn't help me get a job. I taught their Moto is we take your dreams seriously.
