This really feels like a potential Olympic program so powerful yet gentle and emotional. Wonder if she will be able to keep that fantastic level until she will become olympic eligible..
Congrats on the medal! I look forward to seeing this program develop :)

Great skate for Mao Shimada except for the 4t fall, such great skating skills, artistry, and spins with amazingly picturesque positions and rotation speed. Bad tech call on the ur with negative GOE It was rotated and really well done.

Such a pretty costume too! Anyone else getting Hope and Legacy vibes?
@HelTra91 Жыл бұрын
@@mihaillenivov485 They are referring to Yuzuru's costume he had when he skated his Hope and Legacy program (2016-2017 FS costume). Satomi Ito designed Yuzuru's costume and has designed for Mao Shimada too, not sure if this creation is hers though.
The under on the triple axel was too harsh. I would call it a q at most. But they let her off on the triple lutz of her first 3-3 and the triple toe of her 3-3-2. Both were blatantly underrotated, and the judges didn't call them at all. Strange.
@KumaKumaKyun Жыл бұрын
Hm looking again in even slower motion for the triple axel, perhaps under rotated wasn't so harsh after all. Looks like q or < are both reasonable. Even her triple salchow from her 3-3-2 could've been given a q... Hopefully these rotation problems are only temporary for Mao. The judges were quite lenient today by not calling several ur's and a potential q, but they will not be as nice in the future if she were to get a reputation of underrotating jumps.
@yhg5076 Жыл бұрын
Her rotation for triples was fine in Osaka and for the whole season last year. Not in her best shape today but she still held up, pray for the best in the final!
@DS-us1vi Жыл бұрын
@@KumaKumaKyun I don't think she has trouble with the axel, she seems to have entered into it at a bad angle that was the issue here. The quad is likely due to her age and puberty, she will be OK, she just needs time to rework her skills.
@KumaKumaKyun Жыл бұрын
@@yhg5076 yes I hope it is only temporary. She is such a wonderful skater that I truly hope this is just an off day and that these issues with rotation don't continue.

She gets really high GOEs but her jump landings look a bit heavy and her jumps are generally not that high. But her spins are superb and she has really good facial expressions. Her arms are also beautiful.

Most of Mie Hamada's students don't have high jumps. They only rely on quick rotation so when they grow up, the technique will start to fall, eventually.
@deeangel6396 Жыл бұрын
@@HoiNguyen-qw9xj Yes you are right. Theres a lack here in her programs and techniques are forced making it look out of placed. No originality too. I hope she grows into her own style.

@rafael00084 Жыл бұрын
@rafael00084 Жыл бұрын
@ManuelGarcia-vh2vg Жыл бұрын

I love this athlete but she had many jumps under rotated and a bad fall. I belive the scores was very inflated look at their faces they knew it was not that good. On top of that 2nd placed American was underscored in the Short program giving room to Mao. These differences in Figure Skating today is what injuring our sport. If we cannot have compentent Judges then let some other judging algo do the work.

With absolutely no disrespect to Mao Shimada and her commendable performance ( and without any reference , implicit or otherwise, to current geopolitical complexities ) - I am SO sorely missing viewing the stellar , stratospheric competitive skating performances of certain young women skating prodigies, from a disbarred nation …. 😢

Sure, ok but at what expense? With also the spectre of allegedly performance enhancing drugs? Alleged dodgy and abusive coaching practices? And an expiration date of 17 years of age?
