I think i figured out why mao has shot up in winrate despite not changing his kit at all. Its the same reason as Illaoi drop in winrate. S14 has a dif map. For maokai there are more bushes, and more bushes in better positions. Thats the only reason. Not new items, not new champs, just new bushes and map.

Mao is broken bc his engage is unstoppable and can't be countered. He only needs movement speed for it and now he has it + cheap items as well.

Mao has has the same kit for almost 10 years now (I remember playing Mao as a jungler in tourneys back when his ult was AoE damage reduction, and it was amazing) the arguments about "his CC is OP WHAAAA" havnt been a thing in almost 10 prior seasons. As for items, we've had a version of Dead Man's Plate since season 5, Trail Blazer is the same Item plusminus small stats and effect changes but its core 'scaling MS engage' has been the same. Solstice (being a S14 item) coincides with the Map Changes, and is the only item that is significantly different compared to previous seasons, of which, Maokai's winrate never got close to where it is now. Overtuned support items might also be the only other reason, as it effects the game so early (where Mao is probably at his best as a support and not a Tank), giving him extra gold income and sustain (which has always been lane Maokai's biggest problem due to him being bullied out of lane by 99% of Champs) to get through his worst part of the game. Honestly, looking at the support items alone, you can see just how overtuned they are, and seeing as Mao can proc Solstice now more than ever with his Saplings in new bushes, his ability to survive ganks (as well as his duo getting the extra MS) covers every part of his early lane weaknesses. His Kit is not the problem.

Don't get me wrong, Maokai is a strong pick right now, but he has the same weaknesses as many engage champions, namely he doesn't have enough damage to 1v1 most champs unless they really make mistakes. MR Earl played well, but his team played better. Not everyone can play support, it takes a certain level of faith that doesn't always have reciprocation from allies, that said this season ADC's are better suited to support if they can learn macro, and Supports are better suited to ADC this season.

Dear Recap. I know this might not be relevant to this video itself, but considering recent advances in technology I think this is a topic that needs to be brought up: Yamato-less versions of uploads. Essentially, upload the same video twice, but one of them has Yamato muted and Rat's voicelines substituted with AI so it's not just one half of a conversation. The reason why I am writing this in this comment section, is because this is the most recent video and I came up with this idea after being awake for over 30 hours playing helldivers 2.
