Fact; New Zealand has three national languages and Maori is one of them. Accept it. When I grew up in the '60's and '70's there was little welfare support and drugs were hardly around. So, you either got educated, got work or went hungry. I chose the first two. My chosen profession has taken me all over the world and has opened my eyes to different cultures and languages. I speak four languages. How many languages can you speak? So, get educated and stop mouthing off at those who are.

@laura hughes it really doesn't matter. These people have defined themselves as Maori.

Are NZ's current political leaders considering everyone? The answer is NO. We are witnessing a huge shift in wealth from the lower and middle class to the wealthy through tax cuts and tax loop holes. You say you have yet to see a Maori way of doing things that works for Maori. Go and read on what Ngata did on the East Coast last century. He did a lot to benefit Maori as did Princess Te Puea in the Waikato. Compare that to what Hone Key is doing in NZ at the moment that is abuse of power.

Your definition of democracy is warped Louis and shouldn't be taken seriously. In a democracy everyone has a say and a part to play in the running of society. That is how the Ancient Greeks saw it. Your view of democracy is that the majority rules. That is not democracy. That is tyranny and has no place in a modern day democratic society. New Zealand is living in a multi-cultural society so your're probably right about biculturalism. If you can't accept Maori how are you going to accept Asians?

uummm aotearoa will be a non white country in less than 30 years?? are you blind?? pretty sure its well common knowledge that maoris as a race are slowly being breed out of existence... i mean think about it there are no full blood maoris left only half casts or less.. and it only gets less from there.. my mum is a half maori my dad a pakeha, which makes me a quarter so if i dont have kids with another maori then my kids will be an eighth maori lol.. see whats happening there?? just saying....

To start to speak you need to write in in words what is to be spoken but as you dont have a written language how is this possible.Example kia ora which you claim is a greeting seems to be made up of letters of the english alphabet so its an english word and not a maori word is it not .On that note how can you have a language week when you dont have a alphabet of your own.

Ok.. I know this comment was from shit.. ages ago.. but what a stupid comment it is 😂 ofc Maori didn't have a written language. Why do you think my ancestors were good orators, singers, carvers, tattooist and have a fantastic ear for sound before the arrival of Euros? Everything was either spoken or sung. It was the Euros that needed a written language so there we go..
