I really really wish there was an option in video settings (both for the map maker AND the game itself) to disable that gray overlay when you zoom out too far. I understand it may be there to hide bad tiling or save vram, but i really wish i could turn that off. I wanna see the whole beautiful colorful map when zoomed out, even if you have to go to less detailed LOD's.

The gray overlay is actually intended for normal gameplay. You can't see it in the map editor, but when playing, regions are colored with the owner's color, among other things

It'd be nice to have a toggle keybind for it or something like that, tbh. The reason for it being there is nice, but sometimes it's also nice to see that, too.

Agreed, especially during combat - why on earth would I want to see grey tiles for the battlefield area while zoomed all the way in? I want to see the detail the terrain + type of terrain more clearly! Let me appreciate the artwork the 3D environment artists have made for this game more, please.

The gray map is ruining the game for me. I get dumped into it at random times (after a battle, after exiting the diplomacy screen, etc.) and it really makes playing the game difficult, if not impossible, because I can't get out of it.

@@LordManhattan No idea what your price range is but i bought a gaming laptop recently, the acer nitro 5 with a rtx 2060, and have nothing but good to say about it. It was about $1100 USD, and it should be noted that the version with the 2060 is hard to find online for some reason, but if you'd like im sure i could find a link to the amazon I used

how do i apply more than say 1 iron to a tile? and luxury resource, strategic, and terrain features need to have a sperate map view. after dozens are placed its a headache to know whats where.

Would be nice if the fog/rough waters/sea ice would move about on the map as having a large patch of fog that never moves is a bit....odd -- though having areas of fixed "rough waters" would be logical (i.e. Cape of Good Hope; Strait of Magellan) as well as fixed areas of sea ice -- moving "sea ice" as icebergs capable of causing ship damage would be great.

It’s a great mapmaker and better than most, but I would like it to show where I put my resources, have the spawn points not redistribute themselves upon loading the game (the players’ spawn points are re-arranged from south to north and it gets really annoying), and be able to exit back to the main menu.

I checked while watching this video and the max amount of tiles is slightly smaller than the CIV 5 version of the world map. But because you can make regions you can also make borders that look much nicer and historical. Like having England, Scotland and Ireland be their own region so the AI doesn't colonize haphazardly. So unless the max tiles get improved later we'll not see the size maps that we're used from pre-gathering storm civ 6 but they will still be nice to play on.

My biggest complaint with the regions specifically was always that the borders drawn in OpenDev and from what I have seen also in the random map generation in the current pre-release build were not following any kind of terrain logic. In real life, borders are very often drawn around significant territory features. This might include unpassable ridges, rivers & mountains. It seems like this is not at all taken into considerations at the moment.

Middle-click (mouse wheel click) is so uncomfortable and finger-destroying to use for hours on end. I really think it ought to be left click to place, right click to smear, middle click for map panning. Most people will use WASD for panning, wont they? Left click to pan is the most cumbersome thing ever. Which is partly what made the beta so sluggish feeling, that you couldnt increase the WASD speed.
