Really cool video. I never imagined there was so much testing. Its kind of ironic that the only 2 "for real" explosions came as #2 and #3, yet theres been tonnes of (so far) unneccesary tests since then.

@jonragnarsson Good point. They conducted 3 in a joint operation with South Africa (even South Africa had a few nukes once), and at least one on their own. The reason they're not included is that even today they are still classified.

@formerutuber I don't think it's clear from this map, but most of the nuclear explosions in the American Southwest were probably tests performed in Nevada. California is too populated, while Nevada has large expanses of desert. The point still remains - too darned many nuclear explosions.

@nicpendergast As for the fuel rods, there are techniques that can be used to reprocess the waste and reactors that can use "spent" fuel rods as fuel. France generates almost all of their electricity with nuclear power. Maybe we should look to them and see what they're doing (I know they use a fraction of the electricity the US uses, but it might be worth looking at).

GB last fired a test in 1990 and was preparing another at the US NTS in Nevada when the Comprehensive Test Ban was put in place, scrubbing that test. The UK performed 24 tests at the NTS all through the 60s, 70s and the 80s. France and China continued into 1995. India and Pakistan tested in 1999. Now, South Africa, Canada, Brazil, Argentina and a number of other civilized countries gave up their nuclear ambitions without testing; perhaps that's who you mean?

The testing in the United States was all done in Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Utah mainly. It's just desert with some small towns here and there. The video did make it look like they were tested in Los Angles though. and the way the wind works here is all that fallout just goes East so the West coast is actually better off than the rest of the US. Midwest got it the worst, but no one really sees higher death rates there compared to everyone else
@IloveyouLenaKatina13 жыл бұрын
@leonia97 Well, yes. But my point is, even when you test them, you are still sending huge amounts of radiation into the air which ends up in the ground water and then the plants...and humans drink water and eat plants. It isn't like there is a way of containing the radiation just because it is a "test."

@puncheex Well I disagree because The physicist Albert Einstein did not directly participate in the invention of the atomic bomb. But he was instrumental in facilitating its development. In 1905, as part of his Special Theory of Relativity, he made the intriguing point that a large amount of energy could be released from a small amount of matter. This was expressed by the equation E=mc2 (energy = mass times the speed of light squared). The atomic bomb would clearly illustrate this principle.
