After cutting rabbets (on the table saw) in the side pieces to accommodate the back, Steve begins the task of "mock" assembling the larger of the two bookcase units in order to get dimensions for fabricating the back. It only takes three tries to find a place and a way to get these giant bookcases dry-assembled in his small shop! Fabricating the two-piece back, cutting dados in those pieces, and more are covered in this video.
