I hope that Lorentz prospers in this new position, but in reality, I think it's about time we split up Matthews and Marner and let them run their own lines and have them come together on the PP (man advantages). Marner and Matthews are more than capable to run their own lines, they've proven it, especially Marner this year. And Nylander could really use some top 6 support on his line for a change.

Max Domi should be on Austin's right wing to get the most out of him, an it also gives the opportunity to put 3 solid lines together. Kampf, the 3rd best center on the team should be centering Willy's line, and JT with Mitch.

No player frustrates me like Mr. Lazy (Nylander). I've always hated floaters, and he's the worst floater I've seen in many years. Refuses to go after the puck first in the corners, gives up on the play way too early (especially back-checking), and coughs up the puck at the worst of possible times (especially on the PP at the blue line). How Chief figures this guy has earned his spot on the PP (and extends him to PP2 as well???!! WTF?) is beyond me! We've seen what Nylander CAN do when Keefe has benched him in the past. He can do all those things, and amazingly well. But he just refuses to do it on a regular basis. He could be one of the top players in the world if he would just stick to it. It would be amazing to watch (because we've seen it in the past).

It's called upper management and Shanahan is the last piece of the puzzle that needs to go. No doubt he is forcing that the those high paid players be the PP. They get 95% icetime on a PP with like 10% gain. Chief isn't the type of couch to keep non productive PP line but Shanahan has to justify paying the big bucks to those players.

Forget the 5 forwards on the PP. Start addressing the problem of the top 3 that won't shoot. Start talking about why Morgan only looks to pass to Matthews. All 5 of the PP players need to shoot and if they aren't stop worrying about hurting their feelings and get another line on. The PP was a lot better when Matthews was hurt. Explain that or get him off.

The Leafs leave the opposing team's defence open way too much in the Toronto zone. Opposing teams get way too many shots from the blue line and move the puck way too easy. Leafs forward need to be more anticipatory instead of reactive. They don't have to be right on them but right now they are too far away to pressure them and always seem to be chasing the play in their own end. In the other teams end the Leafs defence don't get enough shots and when they do half the time they miss the net. I think all the Leafs need to have shooting practice and drills on how to hit the net....and also how to move the puck to give better angles to shoot without getting the puck blocked all the time. Just my opinions!!!!

Leafs PP last year 7th at 23.9%. This year 19th at just over 20%. Obviously thin margin, but when they were 0 SOG in 3 PP attempts versus the Canucks, that's the problem. It starts with good entries and Leafs don't execute. Team speed = good entries. Rielly's pass backs 100% predictable. The talent on this team needs to be better. JT can't say that, but did.

@@kavo588 How could it be worked around when Marner wants to stay a Leaf? And who would you trade him to when he's on an expiring contract? It would have to be a playoff team. Do you suppose Colorado would trade Makar for Marner? A team on the edge or out of the playoffs aren't going to give up much for a guy who walks in July. Sign and trade? Why would Marner do that rather than test the market where the price is jacked up due to the amount of bidders. So, you'd be getting a dump from a playoff team basically...which could bode well for the future, but would sink this season. Better to re sign him or use the 12+million he'll be asking for to sign a Rantanen who is also on an expiring contract. Anyway, he's not going anywhere so I would get that out of your head. The question is whether or not you'd give up Minten or Cowan. I say no, because I don't think this team can win a cup with whomever they could garner in a deal involving either or both of those players. I'd look to make a minor deal for depth on D and at centre...but for 2nd, 3rd round picks...not the 1st. Dubas has left the cupboard bear.
