I know i am late but that Karlach bit was great. The odds of that happening were pretty low as well. Unless a recent patch changed the numbers there is only a 10% chance to wake up in jail after drinking one of these drinks and only 3 drinks are available per run.

Tbh I actually love how the bit with Karlach went, it’s so fitting for her character that she would be the one in the party to accidentally get arrested and then just stumble upon and save someone important, it’s such a unique way of going about freeing Florrick, it makes me appreciate this game even more to see things go so differently from most peoples playthroughs and it’s also why I like your videos, I feel like so many people that I’ve watched play this game would just revert a save but instead you go with it and even make up your own story and actually role play.

3:19:45 Always said since my 1st run, there should've been a 6th option there to let Wyll decide himself. I mean, yes, it is a common RPG trope of the main character making all the decisions, and it is very common to have binary choice in the RPG when the main character picks for companion in the companion specific quest. But, BG3 designed otherwise, at least in most cases, and for ANY other companion, unless they specifically ask player-character, and not asked themselves, there is always an option to give away your agency with an option "keep silent", "allow companion to lead", "see how it plays out", most importantly "trust companion" in which case approval/hidden points system will play out based on your interactions with companion, and they'll make their own decision that might even surprise the player. Like, cmon, in this case it is basically implementing the same mechanic as approval/Nightsong points for Shadowheart and giving an option "let Wyll decide", and barely even a new voiced line would be needed. When playing as Wyll ofc I choose myself, but when Wyll as a companion .... I have my guess what he would choose himself based on the interactions with PC and approval threshold, but we'll never know.
@cealens29 күн бұрын
it definitely is something that irks me, larian really needed to give wyll more love in the writers room. i know we can chalk up most problems due to needing to rewrite his character and all, and i honestly like current wyll quite a bit, but he deserves the same choice the other companions get in their quests. all i can hope for is mods to help out in that regard.
@nickrubin731229 күн бұрын
@@cealens In this case, I'm talking specifically about one dialogue choice and nothing else. It is a very small thing overall, and has nothing to do with "love of the writers room". If someone into modding can add the mentioned mechanic and option, that would be cool, but it would need some work for sure (the easiest way is to implement an option and make it based on approval threshold number, and binary branch that would lead to Wyll picking one of the pre-existing options). His character does deserve to have this option, and that's all I'm talking about. Honestly, I'm not into "Larian hates Wyll" or "re-writes" discussions at all. I think they are communities afterthought, poorly formulated gripes with something not quite there. For instance, not many mention an actor change from EA, and what were reasons for it, right? Certainly not trying to start "Wyll discussion" by this comment, every party needs its Kaidan Alenko or Jacob Taylor (daddy issues, right?), I guess, and for what its worth, Wyll is a much better character than both of them combined, or at least Jacob. I like this version of the character a lot, and not like we had the full character that was re-written. On the contrary, the EA version was barely even a companion, only some cool concept, and even in EA in didn't make sense and worked properly, and no one cared about Wyll (in general, I'm sure a few dozen people somewhere did). In the end Wyll suffered from cutting War College area, but even then, you can clearly see, that there is no active character arc, and that's not a bad thing, because he IS actually, out of all the companions, just normal stable good dude with some personal problems like any normal dude (and for party-based RPG it is boring in comparison, he is squeezed by good-aligned Tav, Gale and partially Astarion, and only works when played as origin character himself for a "conventionally good" playthrough) A more interesting topic is that they don't have a typical "writer's room", as far as I gathered, when it comes to characters/companions, or even writing by committee. Overall writing and editing is lead writer's responsibility (Adam Smith), and for BG3 for the first time it isn't Swen, which is a good thing, even tho he participated a lot in everything as far as I can tell. But for characters it is Bioware-like approach with individual writers responsible for character cranked to 11/10. Each character more of an auteur creation rather than collective one, with heavy involvement of the actor playing the character in actually figuring out and maybe even changing the character (like Neil Newbon figured out Astarion as a character with Stephen Rooney, not jest read some lines). Wyll was written by Kevin VanOrd, who also wrote Lae'zel, in my opinion the best character in the game with the best arc, so it's not like they lacked talent for Wyll.
@MrSignman6521 күн бұрын
@@nickrubin7312 Wyll in general has very little attention put into his story (and this is coming from someone who really likes Wyll). Especially the little details. If you deny the deal, and break his father out despite Mizora, there's (unless I've forgotten) no unique dialogue. There's also no dialogue for Ulder Ravenguard if you romance Wyll (despite both of Shadowheart's parents getting that, hell even Tara acknowledges you if you romance Gale). This is insane because by this point Wyll has literally proposed to you, and neither he nor his father ever acknowledge this during conversation. His most satisfying ending is saving Karlach, but even that is more because he's saving one of the most lovable cast members. Not to mention his general lack of conclusive story unlike every other companion. It's kind of hard to track Wyll's "arc" when he's a pretty static character. I'm fine with stable characters but when every other character is dynamic and compelling, it's sad that he doesn't really have a quest of his own. Even his "personal quest" is just stuff you'd likely do anyway. Iron Throne is part of subverting Gortash, and Ansur is part of the Emperor's story more than Wyll's. Like, how exactly is "Blade of Avernus" different to "Blade of Frontiers"?? Shadowheart, Astarion, Gale, Karlach, Lae'zel, even Act 2+ characters like Jaheira, Halsin, and Minthara (though she definitely deserves more attention as well), have pretty conclusive, self-contained stories. Not to mention his hero complex (arguably his main character flaw) never gets resolved. The fact that he always feels the need to play the hero to his own detriment, isn't directly addressed (in fact the Ansur Chosen One Gauntlet where he literally slays a dragon and is dubbed a hero only validates this really sad aspect of his character).

1:17:20 What the hell?! Never seen this interaction, and never seen the conversation with a skull as well, probably because never drank the Hooch. Wild And playing basically the full segment as Karlach, including interaction with Gortash through the Steel Watcher, was just great. Since playing DOS2 back in the day, I really like the idea of a party of almost equal members, that you can split and do your own thing, or just lead as one of them at any moment. The best thing about villains was said by Emperor in Dream Visitor form that it is "an elder brain enslaved by mere mortals". They are not stupid eeevil, but they are humanely selfish and short-sighted, and for all the Gortash smarts, in my opinion, at least what I thought during 1st playthrough, their actual plan is insane. He literally was like "How do we command everyone, so there would be order and law? Ah, yes, an enslaved elder brain as a command-sending unit". It has so many flaws in it specifically because they are only natural to human (what if someone loses their stone, what if someone decides to rule alone, what if the crown, that they barely understand, fails, what then?) If you're interested, there is still a cute little quest in Sword Coast Couriers if you talk to Danzo (he waved at you, but you were pursuing that animal abuser lol). Ofc, there are so much to do, and that's the act to inevitably miss stuff, for various reasons, but just saying, if interested ;) (same with Ironhand, High Harper quest, the whole area in general which is not even the city... ok, I'll probably shut up lol)

I have mad respect for the way you're playing this game. This game is something I've been hoping for since I'm 12 years old, so about 35 years. I think you should play another game once you're done, with a totally different character (meaning totally evil, or something of the sort), by yourself if need be. It's almost necessary to understand how personalized a playtrough is. This is the closest to playing D&D without playing D&D you can get. I know you're very disappointed that your character's face changed so much, you could not hide it. You kept saying "I didn't want to! I said no!" But when you think about, you ate some worms and used their powers a few times, and you did start the game with a worm being put in your brain. The game didn't force it on you, but I get it. I think you should have a better idea of what kind of person your character is by now, so that you roleplay accordingly. You still have a lot of very had decisions to take. There are 17,000 different endings to BG3 (obviously variations). I can't wait to see what happens and your reaction to it all!

all this when he won the award multiple times for best performance lol i guess to each their own but he won it for a reason, his personal quest performance especially one of the best things i've seen in a game period like him or not i feel like a lot of men love evil women but when it's another man who isn't lawful good some have problems with it not saying only men dislike him because i know some women but it's just food for thought that being said, it's up to the player to pick the route he goes down like shadowheart his 'arrogance' is a mask if you're analyzing his story, many people do this if you get down to the bones of his character you realize he acts this way because he's free for the first time, he never got to have a 'choice' before and even now as much as he acts superior he usually will do what tav asks for example, he says he doesn't want to drink that one ladies (forgot her name) blood but he does it anyway because he thinks he has to because he's still in that mentality of a 'slave', this is what he tells a romanced tav (which he breaks up if you do this, but he tells you this if you don't have him do this because it signifies you see him as a person, not an object to get what you want like cazador uses him) lots of his nuance is hidden behind romance and even asking him to take the big tadpole and pressing him until the very end not of course a lot of it should not be hidden behind that but it's just what happens in these games, characters will open up the more they like you and even more if you're romantic so if you want to truly understand him, watch someone who romances him aka most any woman playing this game LOL (but on the flip end most every man playing will romance shadowheart so there is that.. not all but a vast majority. they are both good looking with bad boy/bad girl personas.. go figure)
