I've never seen someone play this game with such a genuinely fresh pair of eyes, literally no context, and with such earnest wonder and curiosity. If you keep it totally blind like this, avoid all spoilers about even the smallest gameplay mechanics, it will be a one of a kind series. I hope people can see that and respect it! Keep up the good work.

Well, and the not knowing what to do, and the aimless wandering trying to figure it out, is where a lot of the discovery of things in this game that he may otherwise never stumble across comes from. If you want to play this game straight through the story, it can be relatively linear, and there's a whole bunch of stuff out of your way that you never really HAVE to do. So as difficult as it may be to watch for some of us who know what he needs to do, it's ultimately a good thing, as long as he's still enjoying himself. I watched a playthrough once where the player was between dungeons and intended to wander around and look for side stuff to do, but ended up finding the exact next step in the story progression, and I was like "that's great and all.....but you should still try to do some other things!" One of the things that makes this game so great is how much stuff there is to do apart from the main story, it was really advanced for its time in that regard - the amount of optional content.

Man, I have so many good memories surrounding this game. Never owned an N64 myself, but I played the entire thing at my friends house. We absolutely scoured this game for every single secret. By the way, I believe the extremely tiny draw distance on the Kokiri is actually intended. The fairies are actually visible way before the kids fade in so that you can know where they are. I've always taken it to be the protection the forest gives the Kokiri.

Mapo at some point MUST have played Myst or Riven, because some of his solutions are so out there while at the same time being imminently logical. The logic in Zelda Games can sometimes be illogical, other times they make the answer too simple, so simple in fact that every player taxes a lot of brain power on red hearings that lead one to believe it is more complicated, other times the game tells you the answer, but it is blink and you miss it. In each case as the Owl says: " Do not get discouraged" Just talk to all the NPC's and try different things out and the way forward will present itself. Full disclosure back in the day I would thumb through the strategy guide book whenever I got stuck, which was quite often. Fun fact there is a glitch in the fishing place that can get you the scale early allowing early pre-Dodongo's Cavern access to Zora's Domain. These videos are great by the way, it is so fun reliving this game through fresh eyes.

No spoilers here, just some controller info. The yellow buttons are called C-Up, C-Left, C-Right and C-Down. A good, fully-functional N64 controller should have a stick that snaps tightly back to the center when not in use, and should not have any dead spots in gameplay. Sometimes the cheap knockoffs are iffy, and even the best ones are very prone to wear and tear, unfortunately. If you're interested in getting something a bit more reliable, I would recommend the Brawler 64 by RetroFighters, or Nintendo's official, bluetooth version (a bit pricey). The N64 controller is a bit janky by modern standards, but once you're used to it, and have one that works correctly, it should feel like the perfect match for that game! Btw I am loving this playthrough so far. I've watched a couple of your other ones as well, and just realized I hadn't subbed yet, so that's now fixed :) I hope you solve your controller woes and enjoy the rest of the game. Cheers!

With how often you assume that events run on some kind of internal clock (Dampe's grave tour is the only thing), you should definitely play Majora's Mask after you've finished Ocarina of Time. That game is all about time management and NPC's schedules.

I remember getting stuck in Zora's Domain for hours and hours as a kid. I never finished the diving mini game so just assumed I needed something from elsewhere in the world to continue. So hours later I guess I finally came back and completed the mini-game and was so annoyed! Pretty mean game design not to hint at you needing to do the diving mini game for progression imo, although now I'm older I guess I'd have figured it out sooner. I remember getting stuck trying to get inside Jabu as well for ages (poor choice of words...), but love the speedrun clipping strat haha!

I mean, Zelda also told you to come back with the 3 stones. I don't know a single person who went back to Zelda after Death mountain :D This is wild. But I follow your logic. ...but I also didn't know you could pay the guard to let you through o.O Oh, don't forget, you don't have to wait for the sun to come up ever again. You literally can control day and night cycles! xD ...it's a bad riddle. Don't take it so literally.

oh man the og jotstick was rough, is it like the actual controler from then? cause if so expect the chalt ball to break down pretty fast, might be able to finish before it does tho, if its a rubber ball it lasts so much longer. fun fact: the n6f controller was designed to be used by both right and left handed people, they mandated any game made on the n64 was designed for the controls to be edited mid game to allow for this function, notice the d pad and the action buttons are all in the exact same position... tho they may have laxxed that mandate later.

I'm REALLY enjoying this series and the way you approach the game AND content creation. You've earned a sub and many pennies of views coming your way lol. Thank ya kindly. Edit: @9:48 I really felt some level of shame every time I visited the fairies as a kid. Prayed my parents wouldn't walk in and thought constantly about what I would say if they DID walk in. Hilarious looking back on it.

I find myself screaming too at times😂🤣 For example, I was so frustrated that he ended up not going to do something with Malon and her horse Epona, despite having planned to do it in the first place😱🤣

I love how you have perfectly reasonable and logical solutions to these problems but they don't work because it's not specifically what this game requires lmao this just reminds me why I could never beat this game when it first came out

The yellow buttons are called C, as in C-Left, C-Up, C-Down, C-Right (26:02) It's really quite smart design on Nintendo's part gameplay wise, instead of putting several more button names or another d-pad on the right, they just made it A, B, C-direction.

I know the analog stick tech is very dated compared to modern controllers, but I wonder if there's a calibration issue.

Not sure how you're holding it, but I always found it easier to hold the middle and right parts of the controller and having the D-Pad be basically unused unless necessary. Basically hold it so that the Z button becomes your left trigger.
