I've never seen someone play this game with such a genuinely fresh pair of eyes, literally no context, and with such earnest wonder and curiosity. If you keep it totally blind like this, avoid all spoilers about even the smallest gameplay mechanics, it will be a one of a kind series. I hope people can see that and respect it! Keep up the good work.

Lmao I agree....some stuff is killing me inside....I can't say what without "spoilers" but I can't believe they don't tell you about 2 very small mechanics that very much help that he has been within pixels of figuring out lmao
@turntsnaco8247 ай бұрын
Well, and the not knowing what to do, and the aimless wandering trying to figure it out, is where a lot of the discovery of things in this game that he may otherwise never stumble across comes from. If you want to play this game straight through the story, it can be relatively linear, and there's a whole bunch of stuff out of your way that you never really HAVE to do. So as difficult as it may be to watch for some of us who know what he needs to do, it's ultimately a good thing, as long as he's still enjoying himself. I watched a playthrough once where the player was between dungeons and intended to wander around and look for side stuff to do, but ended up finding the exact next step in the story progression, and I was like "that's great and all.....but you should still try to do some other things!" One of the things that makes this game so great is how much stuff there is to do apart from the main story, it was really advanced for its time in that regard - the amount of optional content.

Man, I have so many good memories surrounding this game. Never owned an N64 myself, but I played the entire thing at my friends house. We absolutely scoured this game for every single secret. By the way, I believe the extremely tiny draw distance on the Kokiri is actually intended. The fairies are actually visible way before the kids fade in so that you can know where they are. The logic in Zelda Games can sometimes be illogical, other times they make the answer too simple, so simple in fact that every player taxes a lot of brain power on red hearings that lead one to believe it is more complicated, other times the game tells you the answer, but it is blink and you miss it. In each case as the Owl says: " Do not get discouraged" Just talk to all the NPC's and try different things out and the way forward will present itself. Full disclosure back in the day I would thumb through the strategy guide book whenever I got stuck, which was quite often. Fun fact there is a glitch in the fishing place that can get you the scale early allowing early pre-Dodongo's Cavern access to Zora's Domain. These videos are great by the way, it is so fun reliving this game through fresh eyes.

No spoilers here, just some controller info. The yellow buttons are called C-Up, C-Left, C-Right and C-Down. A good, fully-functional N64 controller should have a stick that snaps tightly back to the center when not in use, and should not have any dead spots in gameplay. Sometimes the cheap knockoffs are iffy, and even the best ones are very prone to wear and tear, unfortunately. If you're interested in getting something a bit more reliable, I would recommend the Brawler 64 by RetroFighters, or Nintendo's official, bluetooth version (a bit pricey). The N64 controller is a bit janky by modern standards, but once you're used to it, and have one that works correctly, it should feel like the perfect match for that game! Btw I am loving this playthrough so far. I've watched a couple of your other ones as well, and just realized I hadn't subbed yet, so that's now fixed :) I hope you solve your controller woes and enjoy the rest of the game. Cheers!

I know the analog stick tech is very dated compared to modern controllers, but I wonder if there's a calibration issue.

That or it's third party crap. I still use my original controllers and they're very precise. Definitely not supposed to be like that.

Feel free to switch back to your preferred controller if the N64 one isnt working out

Not sure how you're holding it, but I always found it easier to hold the middle and right parts of the controller and having the D-Pad be basically unused unless necessary. Basically hold it so that the Z button becomes your left trigger.

@@BlaiddJohnson I've seen people holding it like a regular controller and stretching their left thumb over to the joystick
