Mapperton Live: This (un)Aristocratic Manor Life

9 сағат бұрын

DONATE to our Quackers Memorial Pond Fund: www.gofundme.com/f/quackersmemorial
Quackers was a much-loved pet Indian Runner Duck who lived at Mapperton in West Dorset, England.
Unfortunately a visitor to the historic house and gardens let her dog off the lead, and the dog attacked Quackers. The dog owner then retrieved the injured duck and wrung its neck before throwing the dead Quackers into the long grass.
There are numerous signs at Mapperton asking visitors to keep their dogs on a lead because of the ducks and chickens. And while accidents can happen, it is upsetting that the dog owner left the scene without saying sorry. Donate here: www.gofundme.com/f/quackersmemorial
The story of Quackers has touched hearts across the nation, following news articles in several national newspapers and the BBC.
We have therefore set up the Quackers Memorial Pond Fund to celebrate the life of our beloved Indian Runner duck.
The funds raised will be spent on the creation of a new pond which will attract wild ducks and other wetland species to Mapperton.
We will also plant trees, shrubs and aquatic plants in the pond, alongside a plaque to commemorate Quackers. In this way, we hope that her legacy will be the creation of a new wetland habitat which will provide a refuge for wild ducks and other wildlife for decades to come.
Please note that the more funds we raise, the larger the pond will be, and the greater the benefit will be for ducks and wetland wildlife.

The Gilded Age American Heiress Exhibition opened to the public here at Mapperton on the 5th May. However, if you can’t make it in person you can buy a ticket (3 cups of coffee) for a virtual hour long tour with me, and support this ongoing project over at www.buymeacoffee.com/juliejmontagu
Curated by Mapperton’s very own American Viscountess, Julie Montagu, the "American Heiress" collection is comprised of more than 10,000 previously unseen letters exchanged between Alberta (Sturges) Montagu and her family, as well as the peerage at large.
Dating from 1888 to 1951, these letters constitute the largest unpublished private collection of correspondence from the period. They offer a remarkable glimpse into the life of a "dollar bride" during the Gilded Age, shedding light on both triumphs and struggles.
The exhibition takes innovation to the next level by introducing Alberta AI, a ground-breaking creation that brings her story to life like never before.
🏛️ Can't come visit us in person! No problem! How about a Virtual Tour of Mapperton House & Gardens! Explore the beauty of the English countryside through stunning 360-degree imagery, videos, and ambient sounds in our immersive virtual tour. Start your tour at: buymeacoffee.com/mapperton

As two warm bodies breathing hot air ascended the spiral stairs they prompted the air to rise quickly which caused the door to close at the bottom... sort of like priming the flue when starting a fireplace fire.

Steven and Claire( who are long gone) !? ... Nestor as his very younger self !? .... Julie has already swam in this Elisabethan bath !? ... interesting. It's a 'do we have a theme within our old footage'... apperentaly they had. Nice though, going all over the place ... in space and time.

Fascinating! Does all your water flow in underground tunnels and into storage tanks? Who puts the water in the underground tunnels? Local government? From a lake? Do you have water wells which pump water out of the ground? Also, this is just a suggestion but I would like to see a segment on Mapperton doors. I bet you have some beautiful hand carved doors. What does the doors of the main entrance look like? How about the chapel? Do you have ancient medieval latches? Fancy Victorian door knobs? You could do up a video segment like the open credits to the movie, The Nineth Gate, except not so sinister. Perhaps you could sell posters called Doors of Mapperton - a gridwork pattern of interesting doors? Not sure there would be much of a market for it but you could put wreaths on the doors, for posters, then sell them for Christmas?

Enjoyed this beyond measure! All of these secret places are all so very special and brings even more uniquness to this lovely Estate. Look foreard to hopefully seeing a pt 2 and pt 3! You both are so sweet and together it is most humorous! Amazing all that "Ethel did" I had a greandmother called Ethel and ( well not the same one you are speaking of here LOL) But my mom was nicknamed that, but yet her real name was, Abbie. ) But you do not here the name Ethel , much anymore . Can just in my mind see thsi statley lady and all that she did and so artistic and interested in getting the best pictures she could, Loved going into the secret places . Was worried as you walked up turret and the photograoher was walking backwards yet and the steps were narrow. Then when Julie thought the door was locked and someone might have locked it, that was very scary ,as that is the last thing you want in a place like that. (seemed like horror picture then lol) Imagine reception is not so good ,and will never be able to let people know where you are. Maybe you would need to go out a window? (Luckily you would have all of us out here alerting help for you!!!lol) Thank you for this video and all of them! Thanks for sharing!

I get it. In the army we were trained to never put hands in pockets for reasons of looking tidy and presentable. (Stand up straight, never smoke while walking, all the common random rules.) Except when we were out on field exercises. The joy of discovering that it was allowed out in a cold and wet forest was enough for me to remember the feeling to this day. Julie seems to have chronically cold hands (always with the fingerless gloves), so I do not blame her for a second.
