This week on ‘Has It Aged Well?’ Abbas and Urjita tackle Shakespeare by revisiting the first film In Vishal Bharadwaj’s Shakepeare trilogy: Maqbool, based upon Macbeth. Joining them for the episode is writer and content creator Aditya Kulshreshtha aka Kullubaazi. Despite Urjita having mistakenly rewatched the other Shakespeare adaptation ‘Omkara’ for this episode the trio manage to stick the landing by keeping the conversation more or less Maqbool centric. Topics covered include: The stellar casting, references to The Godfather, the role of lust in the story, why Lady Macbeth is one of the best villains, the trio’s respective history with the bard, the fantastic use of Urdu and Hindi, Bharadwaj’s inspirations and a lot more.

Wish Urjita saw this movie cause something she might have picked up on that the guys missed was 1) Nimmi absolutely has motivation and 2) Abbaji was not so innocent. The only reason Nimmi is with Abba ji is because she wanted to be a heroine, which Abbaji promised her he would make her... She keeps asking about her movie and he keeps saying later but he has no intention of doing this, because he wants to keep her as his plaything. She's clearly aging out of that heroine age bracket, and she fully knows this (Lady Macbeth's age is also a big theme in the play, particularly bc she does not have a child). This is a big cause of resentment in her. There's this one scene where Nimmi goes to Maqbool after she's just had to sleep with Abba ji and says something like "abba ji ko kabhi nanga dekha hai?" with such disgust and embarrassment.... Main uske jagga hota main bhi hot boyfriend Maqbool ko bolti maar de buddhe ko

Also how are you forgetting abbaji has his eyes on a dancer girl near the end of his life. That was kind of the last straw where nimmi says she has now seen the other woman that how abbaji doesn't love her he is just a horned up grandpa who will leave her he pleases for the other woman.

I don't think Nimmi was with Abbaji by choice. It was a compromise for her and then she gets replaced by a new younger girl. So she had enough reasons to have him killed and thats where Bhardwaj gave this character more dimensions. BTW i loved how she says "Ghar mein to kutte bhi paley jaate hain" challenges both his masculinity and his existence as a human.

38:35 Loved the reference to The Godfather; but the Maqbool scene was a mix of two separate scenes 1. Vito Corleone (Brando) reprimands Sonny (Caan) for speaking in the drugs meeting with Sollozzo; 2. Michael Corleone (Pacino) says to Fredo "never take sides against the family" during a Vegas casino meeting

Wow!! One of the best episodes of Has it aged well. Ended up watching and loving the movie because of Kullu's passion for it!! Should definitely invite guests like him who have a genuine appreciation for the movie and can bring the funny quotient along with it. Very insightful and funny episode @kullubaazi

Please do the 1971 film, Anand. One of my favorites. It has one of the best third acts ever written for a movie, where the audio recorder acts as a brilliant Chekhov's gun! Something, that Urjita will really appreciate. Also, since you guys have already covered KHNH in this series, you guys can draw parallels. Where, KHNH, which was clearly "inspired" by this movie, did a complete 180, going for a "funny" ending as opposed to Anand's dramatic climax.

Great episode, but a few major factual inaccuracies. It's absurd (and sexist) to say Lady Macbeth has no motivation - she clearly wants to be Queen of Scotland, and not just an 'ordinary' part of the nobility. Also, saying Macbeth was written at a time when women couldn't be queen is laughable - Shakespeare spent the bulk of his life under the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, who was preceded by Mary I.

Suggestion for next movie: CHACHI 420!! CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED MOVIE in terms of pop culture. Each and every actor has KILLED IT in their roles and it's a shame that even though the movie has several top notch comedic and meme worthy moments, it still doesn't get the attention it deserves!! Do consider it, pretty please? ❤️

Yaar don't have a female perspective just for the sake of female perspective If that perspective is uninformed, has no opinions about the content and if it just representation for the sake of representation, I wouldnt want to watch it. @@floppy_hands1770 Nope, why should I? 1. I am all for the female representation and the female perspective, but by her own account, she did not watch the film she is here to discuss. In fact she has never seen the film in question (her own words). 2. I value this podcast, hence I am subscribed to this. But just because I am subscribed to this doesn't mean I can't criticize what I believe is a wrong move by the creator of the podcast. I don't leave negative comments on other videos by the same team! I like them to be honest 3. Your correlation of "if you don't like it, go away" is very crude and doesn't apply everywhere

The concept of the show is good but it lacks depth in its execution, @ Urjita, how can you discuss on a movie which you haven't watched at all... plus too much giggling and off topic discussions... You have to fine tune your act to gain more fans ... Even if you have to reduce the length of the show, its fine as long as you stick to the topic only.. Also the 2004 Deewaar movie wasn't a remake of the 1975 classic. This one had a story related to POW's. Shows how good or bad cinephiles you are.
