I live in Ireland and have most of my life so am just across the pond from the hubbub of the premier league all my life, my own national team aren't amazing but we have qualified for things, but not the next world cup anyway. I was born in Canada so was always curious about the potential of the sport over there, but there was never many Canadians playing in the divisions over this way, Paul Peschisolido sticks out to me as a prolific striker, but he never played in the top division as far as I can remember. Owen Hargreaves was by far the most famous Canadian player I came across, but he declared for England at a time when and you can't really say he picked wrong because the Canadian standard was far far behind. It's good to see how they have come along, Alphonso Davies was a revelation in his breakthrough year in the Bayern first team, he is already by far the most successful Canadian player of my lifetime. It's a shame they have a tough group, because just by momentum and goodwill I'd see them getting past the groups and into the knockouts on that stuff alone. It may still happen, I hope it does, I think not only I but most of the world will be routing for Canada in the summer if they start to do well. Shout out to Junior Hoilett (if he's still involved), this will be the highlight of his career.

I've seen firsthand the development of soccer, coming from a small town we didn't have many options until the Whitecaps opened a regional academy to recruit for the first team. I remember we did a trip to Vancouver and we were taught about the "live above the line mentality" but I didn't know that came from John Herdman until this video. I wasn't good enough to progress in the academy but now look at the talents coming through to the Whitecaps, Alphonso Davies being the prime example. Such an exciting time for Canadian soccer! Great video. It really looked into detail about what the CanMNT was and what it is now. I also liked how you went through John Herdman's time with the CanWNT as head coach before he changed jobs to be the CanMNT head coach. I do think this rise of Canada as a soccer nation is permanent just like how Japan made their first-ever FIFA World Cup in 1998 and they have not looked back. Most importantly, the men's club game has really improved in Canada with 11 top-tier professional soccer teams in the country, with a 12th one coming in next year (Langley coming to CPL). Canada did not have a top-tier pro men's soccer team from 1993 to 2006 (until TFC played their first season in 2007), and I think that it played a big role in Canada's previous struggles.

I listened to this when I was ironing today. It's very informative and shows a lot of detail. Thanks for your work here. As an 🇦🇺. I wanted more information about how we beat 🇨🇦in the intercontinental playoff. I need validation from a foreigner in regards to my national team 😜. Unfortunately we ran into a Diego Maradona led 🇦🇷, but lost 2-1 on aggregate after scraping past 🇨🇦. I didn't know Holgar managed 🇨🇦, so there you go and he had success. He was in charge of us when we had the latter stages of the 🇦🇺 golden generation. Got us to an Asian Cup Final (lost in Extra Time) and managed to squeeze our golden generation into an automatic spot for the 2014 World Cup. The generation was done and had qualification gone for a month or 2 longer we wouldn't have made that World Cup. Hence why we were battered 6-0 away by both 🇧🇷 &🇫🇷 then he was let go. Funnily enough, after those big defeats (2013) we played 🇨🇦 in a friendly in London. We beat them 3-0 with an interim coach. I remember my friend saying: We think we have problems.... imagine being 🇨🇦. Well done to 🇨🇦 for turning it around.
