The law in Canada is that if you commit a serious crime while you have resident’s status you will deported no questions asked. This guy should have applied for Australian citizenship before he got himself involved in crime which made him also ineligible to be granted citizenship. He dug his own hole.

Being a citizen isnt a safety net. Its a privilege. One that can be revoked. You can be a non australian born citizen of australia and have your citizenship revoked if you break the law.

@@ann-mariemeurs952 That makes no sense, if your born in Australia what other citizenship would you have but Australian. So were would you be deported to if you originated in Australia. You wouldn't be a citizen of any other country.

This very black and white attitude of Australian sense of justice is so devoid of compassion and decency, the very thing that is meant to be at any core of a community. When we remove that from our communities what exactly are we left with. With support most people want to put things right and when they clearly have, we shouldn't be kicking people out from crimes that were clearly a mistake before they became that better person that they are today. There are so many things I want to say. At this man's worst, he did break the law. But he's served his time and is certainly not on some slippy slope. Look what he has done for himself despite having to go through the system while growing. No one should be penalised years after the fact. He sounds like a genuinely decent man and Aotearoa would be lucky to have him but be don't need him like his children does. I hope he gets an opportunity to have his case heard. Thank you for being that brave man by sharing your story.

@@angeliqueamour4452 In fact Australia was 5 separate penal colonies and 1 free-settler colony which federated. Those people never volunteered to come here to Australia, unlike kiwis who come here voluntarily and whinge and moan when they don't get their own way!
