Thoughts I've been having lately on housekeeping, content creation, and living a stress-free life.
Hello friends! Today I wanted to chat a little bit about how I've been feeling lately. Sometimes I just want to chat, share a slow-living tidy up, and acknowledge that life is hectic but we're all okay still. How are you, my friends?

Oh girl same! 3 boys all homeschooling, 1 is 13, my second is 11, and my youngest is 7. My hubby works long hours. The house is needing updating. We rent my mom's home so I can't really change anything since she is the owner. Plus I'm broke right now, hubby lost an amazing job but is working so right before the holidays his commissions are going to be lower than they had been if that hadn't happened. We have multiple cats. Ayyyyyy yi yi. We all have ADHD and I struggle with depression and anxiety. It ain't easy but it's gotta all still get done. You're not alone mama. Don't feel bad, just do your best and forget the rest. Easier said than done I know. Here's a hug from one overwhelmed mama to another. ❤

Those "perfect"creators have rooms their kids arent allowed in except for filming. They are the ones that take their kids to the park and snap cute photos and take them home. What I saw was a lived in house with kids laughing in the background, a little one that needs to be held and you interacting with your kids. What I saw was a GREAT MOM. We love you because you are not pretending to be perfect. You are real.Your videos feel like visiting a friend -do not change for us or anyone else.

I think we all need to listen to the kids laughing and happy in the background. I so miss having little ones but also remember how hard it was to get things done. Instead of tearing each other down we should tell each other that some days are hard but we are doing a great job! And if you don't like how my house looks feel free to show me how to clean it by you coming over and showing me. Kristina, you are doing a wonderful job and your home makes me feel cozy.

Absolutely love this video and your pre-amble at the start. I’m a 33 year old male who lives alone and has depression. I’ve had a challenging four years since the pandemic and I haven’t been able to catch my breath. One of my joys is making my home beautiful and special, but lately it’s just been counters piled with to do jobs whilst more pressing matters take the forefront. I’m lucky that I’m a high functioning depressive and my house gets untidy and not dirty or with unhealthy garbage etc. However, I always have grace for others and hope to extend that to myself. It’s so hard when other people don’t have mental health issues and you can’t help seeing how simple things are for them (seemingly). But we can only play the cards we are dealt and try to be a bit better than we were yesterday. Love your content and thank you for sharing!

Nath…how are you holding up?? Doing better? I’m currently doing better. As you’d mentioned, I’m spending time making my home better/more special and hopefully beautiful now that I’m coming out of a LONG period of kinda apathy and depression. Doing some deep cleaning that needed to be done and focusing on making my home a pleasant place for my husband (and family or friends who visit…I’m actually inviting them!) to come home to. He’s made several of my days ☺️by taking the time to express appreciation and gratitude for the extra effort. I started by focusing on self care. Cute shorter haircut which I’d be wanting for months and cleaning out my closet and discovering a bunch of cute stuff I’d forgotten about. Also nutrition- which I neglect during bad periods - skipping meals or eating the very bare minimum but also drinking a bit- I decided to cut the alcohol and focus on delish home cooking which I enjoy. Anyhoo, been scrolling thru past replies and wanted to check in. I don’t really use other social media so I wanted to send another reply! Hopefully you’re also doing well. If you feel like it, let me know! Hugs from California 🌺🌺💗

Well said. It's so important to have grace for yourself and others. Nobody's life is perfect. We only see the shiny surface of other's lives, not the grungy bits. Depression is a slippery slope and it's wonderful to hear that you are high functioning. I am the same or I try to be.

Don’t worry about ‘perfect’, it’s really refreshing to come to a channel where the kitchen (and the rest of the house) is not completely white and sterile and has absolutely no personality at all. Your kitchen looks comfortable and cozy.

Alls I know is I just saw you had a new video and was like, “Yay! I hope she’s doing another cozy cleaning video!” The haters and know-it-all “perfect” people can go scratch. I don’t know you personally, but you seem to be one of the sweetest and most honest people on KZbin. Your children are loved and healthy and you obviously care. I think you’re lovely and have a neat, whimsical, and creative vibe which I thoroughly enjoy.

Don't worry about the housework. When you're sad or depressed, do something creative. Creativity has always helped me get through whatever tough time life decides to give. Then you will be more prepared for housework.

100% right. And it’s okay to ask your inner circle for help. I’ve done it before and am recovering slowly from a bad period of mental health and things related to that - but it’s about taking care of YOU right now. Eventually, I wanted to do a little housework. Then I wanted to get dressed. Then I wanted to go outside to rake leaves. Then I wanted to do an art project with the leaves. I did. It’s all tied together. But yeah, the dishes aren’t the priority- the human is. And what’s more basic humanity than following any of the million creative inklings that are in our minds - it takes so many forms! Good advice though. I’m a watercolor girl myself but love pen and ink, collage, photography and a million other things. Anyhoo, thanks for your wise comment. 🌺

I really needed to hear this today. Life is difficult enough with kids, maintaining a home, and your mental health. Why do we need to make it appear as if everything is perfect when it is not. Normalizing imperfections and the reality of a real home is exactly what we need more of! I wish you and your family well. Thank you, Kristina❤

Hey Kristina, I love seeing your home at any time. It's a blend of your artistic style and the love in your family. Your children will have beautiful memories of living in your house and growing there. I do feel sad that the same old unrealistic expectations of motherhood, womanhood and house management still exist a whole generation since I felt the same pressures. I would like to see your generation exude pride in what you do, and you are doing the hardest job in the world. Forget the 'perfect house' and know that your home is perfectly lovely. I deeply appreciate all your content and heartily respect you. 😘

I needed this today. God bless you! I’ve been married 46 years. Over the years there have been plenty of seasons where the bare essentials are all I could manage. That’s life. There are emotional challenges, health challenges, life events - stuff happens. It’s normal. Today I’m laying in bed recovering from an acute illness. I had just been trying not to cry and mulling over how to adjust my attitude to face the pileup when I’m back on my feet. Then I found this! Thank you, again!!!

Thank you so much for being real. I have struggled with depression, chronic illnesses and more throughout my life. I have gotten to the point where I do not allow anyone in my home anymore because of judgement but when you aren't feeling 100% and have a family and also have to work full time it is difficult to keep up with household stuff. There have been days I can't do anything and I feel terrible for it. Every small thing I can accomplish is a win for me but have had well meaning friends and family make comments and it just sets me back. It is exhausting. I haven't really been watching those "perfect" home videos on a lot of other channels because they make me feel like I am an utter failure for not being able to have a perfectly aesthic and clean home. I prefer channels that are real. I have never been comfortable with magazine worthy homes that look like people don't actually live there. I think homes that look lived in are more cozy and inviting. You are a great mom and have given me encouragement with each video I watch. Don't let the trolls get to you. I have learned that often times when people criticize it is more a reflection of how they view themselves than of the person the are critcizing. If that makes sense. Your children look very happy and cared for. Just because someone has a perfectly clean and tidy home does not mean they are a great parent (coming from experience there). Things do not need to be perfect. Best wishes.

I love the background noise of laughing kids! You must be doing something right. I've been through some depression, a spinal fracture and cancer. The housecleaning/organizing has been through some ups and downs. I've always been able to reset and move forward but I couldn't let myself worry about it while taking time to heal. Your health is more important than how clean your house is.

I'm ony 5 minutes in and all I have to say is, I GET IT! I was raised in a house where you kept everything useful, and kept paper records of everything. I went through a period of depression and anxiety while trying to deal with a very stressful situation. I chose to focus on the situation rather than my environment because it was all I had energy for. The situation has been over for years and I'm still digging through 17 years worth of paperwork, and while it's not pretty it's getting tons better every day. Noone will ever know the extent of someone else's struggles. There's no shame in doing the best you can or in asking for support or help when you can't.

Keep inspiring us with a life that is both real and charming. A content creator who is not offering a varnished image of life is so absoluted needed! What makes your content stand out is that it is not filled with pessimissm when presenting a real view of life. Your videos are filled with hope, kindness, self-acceptance, and forgiveness. All with a retro spin that I really adore. Trust me when I say that the world desperately needs your vision of the world, complete with depression, ADHD and being a mom. I know it can be hard to tune out the critics, but know that what they say has more to do with them than you.

I struggle to keep my house tidy and It's the number 1 reason that I rarely create content on my KZbin channel. I'm a crafter; a spinner, a weaver, a knitter and crocheter, I dye my own yarn and clothing, make journals and much more. As you can probably imagine, I have tons of crafty supplies and equipment with very little storage. My friends and family are very judgy and often tell me to throw it to the tip. My husband started lining our Rumpus Room many years for me to keep my crafts but it nevere got finished and instead became a junk room. I've been trying to go through it all but It's such a big job doing it on my own. I hope one day it will become a craft studio. BTW; your mushroom decor is adorable

It took me some time to watch. Because I knew it would shift my mind in some ways. I'm that kind of "perfect" and "control freak" wife. I love everything to be good, maybe not perfect, but good. Tidy, clean, homey and welcoming..... 48H before Christmas my mother in law told me "well we're not doing Christmas to my place this year, let's do it to yours". I was like.... how will I manage this, living in a small space with my husband, having 2 sets of plates, 2 sets of everything in the kitchen.... I felt lots of pressure, because as a first time Christmas Eve host, I wanted it to be good.... This morning I was going to shop a few more things (yeah I started yesterday...) but now, I feel more relax. It will not be perfect, it will be with different glasses and plates... but I know that what will be in is the most important and everybody will enjoy it. Thank you for that reminder, thank you for making it easier :)

I love coming here. My little house (we moved from SE Oregon back to the Appalachian Mountains) is starting to come together - we down sized and the Cottage Core is strong. Thrifted, facebook marketplace, and fleamarket finds are our 'new' furniture. Items we've collected over years are out to be seen again (we had been living with our son and his kids - breakables were tucked away). We move along at our own pace. The house is clean, not perfect but I'm not ashamed to open the door. I'm glad you found your pace, your joy, and are living a good life taking care of your family your way. Thank you for letting us walk with you for a while.

I was watching a video by Remi Clog the other day, where she talked about how hard keeping a house clean with ADHD and children is, and that humans aren't meant to live in isolation with one person doing all the housework for one home. That if we lived in extended family groups there would be others to cook while we cleaned. Others to cut the grass or chop the wood while we played with and thereby taught the children. I was reminded of that when I watched you washing up, and wanted to be there to dry up for you while we talked as we worked.

There are things MORE IMPORTANT than a clean house, period. It called LIVING. There is a big difference between really living your life to the fullest and just existing. The house can be cleaned, the kids can be cleaned, etc...your family is young and you'll never get these times back, enjoy them. And honestly, feel sorry for those who have nothing but time to spend cleaning. I'm not saying that cleanliness isn't important, but it's NOT the most important aspect of life. Let's face it, kids are actually healthier when they can explore their surroundings and dirt finds them :) A messy home usually means it is full of activity :) So, smile and take a deep breath. You're doing a great job. Kudos,

Yes! love seeing a content creator who looks like me and has a house that’s not perfect. I’m sitting in my very vintage kitchen with chipping paint that I haven’t gotten a chance to repaint and old old linoleum that we will someday update. My family is happy & healthy, and we keep working on it!

I love your videos! Please don’t listen to people who say negative things to you, they are usually jealous and feel the need to tear you down for that reason. They feel small, and bringing others down makes them feel bigger-so they think. You are fantastic!

The wildest thing about this is that I completely agree BUT I simply cannot apply it to myself. One of my very best friends has four kids and every time I go over she always so contrite about her happy disaster. She always says she’s worried about people judging her and, indeed, people have. I always tell her if someone is in her house/judging her then to hell with that person, they’re not worth caring about. And I sincerely believe that. I just can’t stop judging myself. I feel like this is my job and I need to bust tail to make sure everything is perfect. Grace is not my strong suit. I’m so pleased for you that you’re getting there; I hear it makes for a happier life!

Depression and anxiety here! I've been completely struggling for about the last year, and I can absolutely sympathize with you. Please, don't worry if things don't look "perfect." Perfection isn't real. I get that you want to create beautiful content, but there's so much beauty in imperfection! When you're not keeping up with the house, you've still been doing really important things: spending time with your loved ones, and looking after your mental health. The progress you've made on that is more beautiful than any picture-perfect home. And your channel IS a warm hug! I only found you a couple months ago, and you've gently inspired me to do better at keeping my one-bedroom, childfree apartment tidier. Is it perfect? No. But like you, it's a lot better than it used to be. I don't know you personally, of course, but after watching your videos, I can honestly say I'm proud of you for looking after yourself.

I’m rewatching this video right now. I have been in a depressive and anxiety spiral for a week now. Not because anything bad happened, in fact the opposite. But while I was otherwise engaged, my house became a mess. And the comedown after the adrenaline filled few weeks I’ve just been through is almost debilitating. So I’ve put you on, with a cup of tea and a bowl of porridge and am listening to you for motivation. Sometimes I find it hard to look through the extremities and focus on the important things and you help me with that. Please keep doing what you are doing xxx

I love your channel. I love your beautiful dresses, your honesty and how sweet your home is. I can so relate. I am on the other side of the children situation. I have 6 that I raised and now they are all grown. So enjoy yours, it goes fast. Hubby told me what a woman said to him a few weeks ago, "The days are long, but the years are short"! So true. I think about how did 39 years go by so fast? Fortunately, the grown kids are amazing human beings (I must have done something right), the grand kids are awesome and life finally isn't at a dead run anymore. I think I have PTSD from it all sometimes and now have days where I simply am so darn tired of it all. Tired of doing dishes, tired of the clean up, tired of coming up with dinner every day....etc. However, on the flip side, i have a much cleaner house and a lot of time on my hands that I can choose what to do with. Laundry now is NOT an endless battle. It takes me one day per week, to wash, dry, fold and put away mine and husbands clothing. Where before, i was lucky if it wasn't Mount Everest on either the dirty pile or the clean pile. So yeah, it's good! I determined as I was doing it all, having a clean house is nearly impossible if you want to have quality of life and happy kids. Once they are all in school, or of school age. It gets so much easier. Still an upstream battle, but at least you now have a paddle to help with the journey. So be gentle with yourself (and the kids won't remember a messy or dirty house, they will remember the fun and the love)This last year, my back has been bothering me (too much sewing, i think started it) And there was a few days that i had things i wanted/needed to get done. Then my knee started acting up too. I almost had a break down, I let myself cry for few, gathered myself up and determined that I would simply just do the best i could that day!! It worked, it took the pressure off and I actually got quite a bit done. Since then, my mindset is that. "I will just do the best I can today". Some days i move mountains, other days, i call it good with making the bed and taking a shower. Please, stay who you are, don't apologize and stay sweet! With much love! Have a beautiful day!

You are helping so many people by being so honest. Honesty is so very lacking in most cleaning videos. I love seeing imperfect houses, mine is so far from perfect. It's so very nice to not see a polishing video. The nitty gritty is reality. The cabinets that may not have been moved and cleaned behind, the fridge that does not get moved because its so very heavy, the chairs and couches that are far from new... I could go on and on. I appreciate your videos so much. (hugs) Thank you!! God bless you!

You are definitely not alone, I don't know if I'll get any other rooms fallified before we do our Christmas decor. But that's ok! We are alive and we can make lives simple and only do things that bring us joy (or necessary self-care and home-care tasks.) I've found it really helpful to spot-clean the most used areas and remind myself that other things can be delegated to family, or left for a day when I've got more energy. Sending love!

First of all, you are doing a great job (and you don't need other people to tell you that)! There are always going to be on days and off days, days when our homes are clean and days when the floors are covered in crap. That being said, having less stuff has saved me so much time and energy over the last year as I began my decluttering journey. I'm also a lover of vintage and antiques and definitely a collector, but I asked myself what made me happier, having more free time or owning a lot of things. I am in no way minimalist but I would say the biggest thing that has made it easier for me is reducing items in my home. This is just an idea from one vintage lover/collector to another and in no way a judgement on you or your lovely home :)

So i do have to deep clean my kitchen. Maybe I can start that after I finish my goat milking room and fencing. I am getting 2 Nubin does that lost their kids. I do have to get them checked out by the veterinarian. They need some blood work. I know you have chickens. I would love to see how you raise them and gather eggs. One thing about the people who say nasty things. I wanted you to know that. You have a wonderful husband. Beautiful children. A wonderful home. You are a beautiful lady. And your orange cat is great. A year or so ago my husband kept repeating that he didn’t care if every single dish was out of the sink at the end of the night, or that every toy was in its place. Then I realized I was putting pressure on myself to have everything the way my mother did. But my mom and I have different goals, and my husband pointed out that if I don’t care and he doesn’t care, why do I need to do certain things? Life changing. I still like to start a load of dishes but I no longer stress about perfectly clean counters or floors. Even tho my mother lives her and I’m sure it drives her nuts 😂🙄☺️

Kristine I have seen a transformation in your home since I began watching. It's is hard staying home to be a wife and mother and full time homemaker. Especially if you are like me, barely making ends meet. All that falls on our husbands then we feel as wives we need to step up our game to show our appreciation for their long hours. I had 3 boys that my husband and I decided I would be at home. Where by the way I wanted. I suffer from anxiety and depression and fir me working outside was not an option. This was a different world late 80's and economy was tough. It's nearly impossible for families today to feed their children healthy food all the time and stay in budget. I too hauled firewood to heat our home. But I loved it. To conclude you did a great job shifting decor and I too love the thrift store hunt. You take care, and don't put too much pressure on yourself or channel. We real Moms will keep watching because we are encouraged by truth.

I loved being able to see how you have things decorated and how you're shifting things for the season. I do a version of this as well and find it nurturing and supportive to have my environment mirror who I am and how I'm being in any given moment. Which is often only partially "there yet" and in motion and changing depending on the situation. I was surprised and excited to see you have the porcelain Snow White figure. I have one I thrifted when I was a pre-teen and I've never seen it anywhere else. 😁 And I love the Franciscan-ware Rose salt and pepper shakers. I inherited a set of those from my Dad and they are a fav. Keep being you and I'm pretty sure all of us and more will show up for it and you.

I once visited a family who had just had a baby about a week or two prior. We were welcomed, but also warned that it was going to be petty untidy. Stepping inside, it was overwhelming to me how much mess and clutter there was. The dishes were washed and that kind of thing, but there were piles of things being stored on the floor, on the table, on every surface, on the counters, etc. At first I felt like it was really messy and they would be better off to fix it, but then my mind changed a lot after considering what they had just been through. They didn't have mental capacity to make their house straight, as far as I am concerned. They had just lost their 14 month old two months prior after fighting for her life ever since she was born. The previous baby had needed 24/7 care, couldn't swallow, couldn't roll around, etc. Just stayed in her crib either at the hospital or at home her whole life. After seeing the bedroom she used to occupy and all the medical equipment, I realized that keeping the house tidy was probably last on their priorities list at the moment, and I certainly didn't blame them after seeing more closely what their struggles had been.

No one who *lives* in their house has a perfect house. Like you said, a home is not a showpiece. There's no hope in striving for perfection in housekeeping and homemaking. These are two separate full time jobs. Just aim for *happy* and comfortable because that's really all you need to make a home. You are embodying the principles that I lived by in the 90's when I was raising my kids as a stay at home mom. I also lived more simply, thrifted and made do and mended. I also had undiagnosed/unaware of ADHD issues that made it a struggle to DO all the things. I learned to manage and I applaud your success in doing the same. Side note: I absolutely love that linen, hand embroidered, full apron you have! It's stunning and I want one to embroider for myself! I always end up with cooking stains on my clothes, you'd think I'd already have an apron, but no.
