I spent a lot of time with Alan between 1996 and 2002 and his command of scales and chords, harmony, all of it, nothing was ever random. He had complete command of musical intent . So @ 41:15 Brett you are spot on. And Alan did go through every scale and every chord ,the Slominski book. I just can’t believe there’s somebody else crazy enough to do the same thing again. Alan was quite the knucklehead 😂😂You must be too.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 love that you’re doing this. Wish I had a clue.🧌🧌🧌🧌🧌

@@BrettStineMusic hey Brett, if you are interested in Allan stories I’ve got many. I also learned a lot about his gear ,effects, amps ,speakers etc. he shared a lot about that stuff but he didn’t give away anything about the music! He was a master of redirect. Blah blah blah. Let me know how to get in contact if you’re interested, thanks again.

Thank you so much for these videos and conversations. They have probably been the most useful (and succinct )Allan information I’ve encountered. Ever.I’ve bought Brett’s book before, but to have Dani ask Brett ideas and go ‘wha?’ and Brett to reply with ‘yep’ makes me feel a little more normal! It’s getting me to practice again ! Thank you so much.

I'm so glad that you have started this series, that nerdy stuff just with the man himself, mind-blowing! Furthermore, you are asking many questions that I would be asking too, so thank you, this is so enlightening.

My brain can not handle the over-complication of these MATH things. Coming from a rock background Van Halen Etc it's much easier for me to choose a scale, Hell, I can make up any scale and then simply develop chords from that scale and use that scale for my melodies and solos for original music. That way, I'm free just to have fun and be creative. It's more about composition and memorable catchy phrases than it is about improvisation for me. Works for me.😊😊 Thanks for the videos!

Brett is a cool dude, he can actually do in reality what everyone waxes philosophy about ! Allan takes a "scalar approach" well said . So many Holdsworth fans are constantly saying " didn't know theory" he knew theory but broke away from bop and took to Modern jazz with his own approach . The fact is you don't really need to know theory to play jazz You have non functional Harmony so keys Modulate often The jazz approach is use chord tones and 5 note melodic sequences to follow chords . That doesn't require the ability to understand the modulation! Gypsy jazz guys are notorious for not knowing " theory" IMHO I think Wes used rule of thumb changes he learned made songs out of them and played over with targeting . I don't think they gave much thought to tri tone subs they just did them because they were chromatic Also wes used diminished principle sub the major or mixo on a V7 then play whole half diminished over and you get both major and minor blues Wes would do either on a 5 chord . It is approach to chords not really " theory" besides theory is culture Oxford University may teach 12 tone classical and Berklee would teach modern jazz harmony

Hi Dani.. The link in the description that goes to the stand alone purchase that is outside the patreon link, is that the same content as the actual patreon, or is there more pdf material?
@marbinmusic Жыл бұрын
It’s a link to buy a pdf and guitar pro package that Brett made. We are selling it through our Patreon but it’s a separate thing that is not included in the Patreon subscription. There is one link to buy the lesson material for $7 or a link to buy Brett’s whole book.

Holdsworth tone video would be cool... its insane Brett logged ALL the scales, seems excessive but impressive... big question I have is how to transition from one scale into another
