"Learning tunes is the invisible canvas that we attach all our improvisation to... " Guru level insight! Such a great lesson - just like the St. James Infirmary vid. Thank you!!!

Dang Marbin this is gold. Really great practical advice and it shows because all of your playing is so clean and thoughtful. Getting the basics down is super crucial to being able to shred like you can. I’m def not that good but have learned SO MUCH from your videos. Thank you!!

Thanks. This is great, I'll be with this for a while. I've only recently discovered Marbin, a really great band. Better late than never.

Great Stuff . . . however, speaking of the melody, the G7 turn around going back to the C chord should have the b5 of G7 (Db) as the note in the melody, not D natural just before landing on C. That's just how I learned it years ago? I enjoy your work here, and kudos to all the online teachers that put the time in to show and share with others, their knowledge ;-) Sure wished we had this vast amount of information growing up, instead of scratching records endlessly for hours trying to learn the licks!

I agree on no paper but for me I would get stuck at identifying the chords to be honest. Not all of them as I might figure out the C and D7 but would probably miss the Dm and go straight to G7. So having the chords on paper is definitely a big help

That's very similar to how I learned that song 50 yrs ago. I have Always sucked at sight reading, so with paper I have to translate it to english first, for me it was easier to memorize than to rely on notes on paper.
