Either that or some of the marbles are weighted down more than others because those in the closet lane could be way farther behind and still manage to catch up with little time to spare.

If you frame it as simply "near track vs far track", near track wins 11-5. I think that's the flaw with this type of course design: one track is just going to be inherently better than the other. Interestingly, though, Bronze and Gold, the last two matches, were both won by the marble on the far track. If you're gonna do an event like this, though, you really need to do each matchup twice, switching tracks for the second, and add the times together to determine the winner.

While I agree with you, the video would then have a "pacing" issue. In other words, if we did your suggestion, we'd be looking at a 25+ minute video, which might be too long to maintain viewership throughout. (i.e. many would skip to the end or only watch the first part)

@@gameboy9 Absolutely correct. He'd have to cut the amount of participants in half or shorten the track significantly. I know I probably wouldn't stay interested for a half hour of this in one go. If the track is too short, though, it's less fun because there's less chance for passing (which I thought was a big flaw in how Fubeca does the "race car" style track too). I think in the end, this style of race just doesn't work as well as the one with the mazes and funnels. Those are fun because there's tons of passing.

Each jump should be into a tray that allows the marble to roll onto either track as it exits, plus it trips a shunt that forces the trailing marble onto the other track (if it's far enough behind). But something like this needs to also happen at the start, so that there is no inherent advantage in the first stretch of track.

I think marble racing is great, fascinating to watch, but this one is my least favorite so far. There is no interaction between the marbles, no opportunity for lead changes, and one track seems faster than the other.
