There is a smaller Marbles hatchet also forged in El Salvador with an American hickory handle at the same company. Here's the link to that: www.smkw.com/webapp/eCommerce/products/Marble%26%23146%3Bs+Outdoors/Marble%27s%C2%AE+Single+Bit+Hatchet/MA700SB.html

I watched the video where you restored the old axe. The Nicholson files. I recognized the box and went to my shop and found a similar one, 1930's or so, which I inherited. They were in my dad's workshop when I was a kid, and when he passed, my brother and I divied up the tools from generations going back to the 1850s.

My little Marbles axe came in the mail today, I am VERY happy with it. Took it right out of the box and was trimming some trees around the property. Comes sharp enough to work with but I agree it need the touch of a mill file and a stone. One of the few values for the dollars today. Ya found a winner Cody !

I love your videos. I use to cut timber for Columbia Helicopters Inc., watching your videos makes me miss that work terribly. I typically carried and 5 lbs single bit with a 36 in handle for driving 12 in wedges during the falling process and a smaller hatched for tapping in wedges during the bucking process. I have dozens of axes hanging in my barn. My wife laughs at me cause she could always find me in the hand tool isle of any hardware store pouring over the axes. Occasionally, I go out to the barn and reflect on the job I once had, where these fine hand tool where used an a daily basis. Keep up the great vids. AJ

Just bought one on Amazon, its on the way. The price on Marble's website is now ~$25. Amazon is around $36, which is actually cheaper if you have Amazon Prime since shipping one from Marble (for me at least) was an additional $15. So its really $36-40 online. Maybe you can find em in a store somewhere for cheaper. Great review, I look forward to chopping up some Aspen here in CO!

Just got it, grain orientation is basically perpendicular to the axe head. I know not ideal, but have you ever had a small axe fail due to poor grain orientation? (in the meantime i'm trying to see what the seller can do).

+Lee Doughty the amazon supplier offered to refund the purchase if i sent it back. at the time there were no replacements to be had, so i just kept it. i ended up getting a Gransfors-Bruk Small Forest Axe for my bday, so I tend to just use that. I think it (the Marbles) will hold up just fine for light camp work and for moderate wood splitting with a baton.

Hand forged of 1045 carbon steel in El Salvador? This is strictly an educated guess, but I'd bet you that that axe came from Condor Tool & Knife! That's not a bad thing. Condor makes good stuff at a good price. I have one of their Greenland Pattern axes and a couple of their parangs, the Village Parang & the Bushcraft Parang. They're all great tools and very well made! BTW, you had two of my all time favorite axes in this video, the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe and the Husqvarna Carpenter's Axe! If you had had an S.A. Wetterlings Forester's Fine Axe on that table it would have been a perfect trifecta, all of my favorites in one place!

I recently bought one of these Marbles Camp Axe's. It is absolutely everything you said and more. I maybe use an axe a dozen times a year and really wanted a "real" axe that I can carry, use, and someday be proud to pass it down to one of my children. This is it! However, I'll probably be buying all my kids one of these as it is so nice and although I've never used a really good axe, this fits my needs and I love it! I wish it would have come with a sheath... but I'll be investing in one to protect this beauty. Great review! Thank you. God bless.

There are other sites that list it for around $20 still, they are just out of stock as well. lol KnifeCenter.com has them for about $26 (still not bad) and the page will let you pre-order and says they expect them in December: www.knifecenter.com/item/MR701SB/marbles-camp-axe-american-hickory-handle So not too terrible of a wait and most certainly not a terrible price. lol I think the Amazon seller is probably trying to sell it for too much since apparently they are the only ones with any left. Of course that could be why they have any left. lol

Baileys out of California (Baileys.com) had the Council Tool Hudson Bay axe with a 26 inch handle 2 weeks ago for 17.95 . It seems as though you prefer to recommend junk or overpriced tools made outside of the U.S. I do not follow this protocol I purchase USA made goods whenever possible, this in return helps our folks and economy to grow. The Dollar is very strong currently vis a vis other currencies around the world. The real concern with buying products from El Salvador, or overseas generally are the labor practices that go on. The people who made that Marbles axe probably were paid pennies on the dollar. The expansion of bi lateral and multi lateral free trade agreements are what offshores jobs. And those jobs end up getting held by people who get paid nothing and are often exposed to dangerous workspaces.

I bought this axe. it's about $30 now, but it's a goddamn incredible axe. it's comfortable with a fabulous handle, reasonably sharp out of the box, a perfect weight that fits a mountaineering pack, the steel is great and the handle was hung perfectly. this is a perfect axe for a backpacking kit (about 2.5lbs) or in your car or truck for felling or splitting a log across the road just like in this video.

I have 3 of them, in different handle lengths, all made in El Salvador. They too were listed as being 1045, "high carbon" steel, but those I have are a stainless steel. I wire-brushed the paint/coating off of them so I could do a forced patina & give 'em a more vintage look. However, they absolutely will not take a patina. Not sure exactly what type of steel mine are, but they sharpen well, cut well & hold an edge well. So for their $20-$25 price, I'm happy!

I've got a brass Marbles coat compass that my grandfather had pinned to his Filson coat for many Northern Michigan deer seasons. All the other grand kids got the "good stuff". I got the stuff that mattered.

Couldn't agree more about the lacquer on the handle. My main gripe with it is that it's slippery when it gets wet. Problem especially in snowy conditions in early spring

Just picked up two, one for me and one for my son. I didn't manage the same level of edge as you did, but I did get the edge to a nice sharpness. I did find some small grinding issues between the two, fixed it with a file. These things are fine choppers. My son just got through a six inch limb.

They are BACK! $50 + at Amazon. Around $34 with shipping from SMKW where I got mine. It did not come with a sheath. But not to worry, Wranglerstar has a video for that! Ordered my Chicago screws, now if I can just find some nice old leather…

Thanks for perfect hatchet test as usual! My quick steel test for axes is cross chopping of 10 alu cola/beer cans on wooden stump. Worse material causes rolled+dull edge just after that simple trial.

I love this ax and yes it's hard to believe it's only $19.99. Very well made and it holds up in real life, you can use this ax for work!! Bottom line its for real!! Im now waiting on my double bit marble ax should be here this week and it's only $19.99 also. If it turns out to be of the same quality i may be looking into this company alot more. Anyway Wranglerstar should be rewarded by this company he did a great job on this video of this ax and the company should thank him PLUS!! God Bless.

OMG I have this old pearl grip knife that came with a collectible truck model I got from this old man who went to my fathers coffee shop, it's MARBLES brand, this same exact company, I use it every day because it's the best knife I've ever used, what a coincidence! Never got around to looking up the company, now I don't have to. That is so cool, I love it when whit lines up.

+Baron Ockslite You are right, the older Marbles knives are of the highest quality. That company went out of business in the 70's due to a fire. Their newer products are not near the quality

I just bought this same axe a week ago, it's still a very nice axe for the money, however, it's a little more than double the price now. I paid $48.00 for mine today. That tells you how the axe market is today.

My Marbles axe is the No. 9 but with a full polished head. Webster Marbles is an icon of bushcraft. One of my cherished possesions is a Marbles woodcraft knife with a convex grind. Wranglerstar is going in the woods to process heavier timber than my duo is designed for. Well: go light or go long? Or base camp and have more efficient tools and pots and pans? Over my outdoor life, I moved from light and basic to fixed and functional. Meet here on Wranglerstar and share opinions. These KZbin channels are fun!

A tip for removing the round type wedge is to use a drill bit almost the same diameter as the inside of the wedge. Then take a flat blade screwdriver and drive around the outside carefully as you pry a small amount it will work itself out. You can reinsert it into the next handle. I was skeptical at first using these instead of the typical shape, but they have impressed me in my new sledge.

I have one of the old Marbles safety axes and I am very pleased with it, I did attempt to purchase one of the axes you were so pleased with only to find everyone I checked was out of stock. Today however I used an old axe I have had for some time and don't even remember where I got it. It is a Union Axe made in the USA by Union forge and hoe it preformed very well, just wondering if anyone has ever heard of this company.
