For doing things such as tops I would use finger nail polish.. I have a friend who does coffee mugs with finger nail polish.. and water is all that is needed and it dries really fast.. and also leaves a shiny surface..

Can you describe the materials ? Because I, have not been able to find the gelatin or thickening product for the water and also were you find aluminum ? Thank you love all the info new at this art

Much more interesting to see things like guitars being done. Search those videos out, where they'll dip entire guitars into drums of water. They refer to it as SWIRL PAINTING, not marbling.

KK - Swirling a guitar is also less of an art and more throwing shit at a canvas. I typically see people swirl by dipping a guitar in a bucket or tub, and just taking the pattern as it lands rather than working it like in marbling.

Carrageenans or carrageenins extracted from red edible seaweeds, Their main application is in dairy and meat products, due to their strong binding to food proteins. Carrageenan is a vegetarian and vegan alternative to gelatin in some applications, although it cannot replace gelatin in confectionery like jelly babies. 2 table spoons per gallon of water, warning its a thicking agent, it will make the water very thick, this is how it holds the patterns of color paints.

Calvin Bridges add 2 tablespoons of carrageenan powder into 1 gallon of water, stir it and let it sit for 12 hours for thicking the water, its good for 3 days (72 hours) than you have to water down liquid acrylic paints and use eye dropers to drop the liquid acrylic paint to put on the water mixture, always prime the wood first in order for the paint to stick, use combs, needles, pine needles, to make patterns, then dip the primed wood on to the surface of the solution, the pattern will stick to the wood, let it dry for 1 or 2 weeks , then polish with floor wax to give it shine. make sure you have no air in the solution

carrageenan or you can use methocel. I believe the methocel is cheaper.

Gina Cottichio I take that back. Read your question wrong. You use alum (mixed in water) to treat it first and then use carrageenan or methocel in the water for the paint.

Liquid starch also works for floating acrylic paints, you will need a rinse tray as well.

Marbling can be done with oil paints, specifically because oil floats on water. He may be annoying, but he's not always wrong.

Advice to the guy in the gray shirt: Quit interrupting! The demonstrator was doing well without your "help." Just let him demonstrate, and if anything is left unclear, you can ask him to clarify it. But you kept sidetracking the presentation with parenthetical remarks and questions until the main thread is lost.
