In this excerpt from the latest NIGHT SCHOOL episode, Marc Lamont Hill breaks down the horrific murder of a young woman on a New York City subway, where a man set her on fire as she slept. While condemning the act itself as pure evil, Hill takes the NYPD to task for their shocking inaction-an officer was caught on video walking by the burning woman without attempting to extinguish the flames.
Hill calls out the deeper systemic issues: how public resources fail the most vulnerable, the role of homelessness, and how media narratives quickly shift focus to immigration. He urges viewers to go beyond the headlines and ask the bigger questions about accountability, mental health, and the structural failures that led to this tragedy.
This critical conversation examines not just the murder, but what it reveals about our society’s values and priorities.

During their press conference about this horror, that Tisch woman and gang of other NYPD authorities spent most of the time patting themselves on the back because there are cameras in subway cars. The image of that cop casually strolling past that poor woman is as you say- evil. There are so many levels of evil to this nightmare. And the fact she can’t even be identified is even more heartbreaking. I’m sick of “humanity”.

My guess is that cop has witnessed so many horrific things, they have become desensitized to it, which is worse. There’s so many things wrong with this entire incident, I’m not even sure where we would or should start from

Yes, where was his urgency in helping this victim? As someone who has rode the NYC subways all of my life, it is heartbreaking to see all of the violent incidences that have happened this week on the trains.

Why did he do it? This whole mental health issue has become a cry wolf conflation at this point. Because i was abused 10 years ago ir what not I will set an innocent person on fire? This is outa control man. That woman could be you or I or our loved one.

Real life demons and humans that worship and serve the devil live among us. I didn’t always know or believe this, but it is true. It’s really the only explanation for these types of evil senseless crimes, once you find this out. Mental illness is just the most believable cover story.

The person who commented: "It appears it is very difficult to find a real man NYC. Mr. Penny shut the lights off as left city. My response was No Mr. Penny didn't!Mr. Daniel Penny made it ok to straight-up murdered an emotionally disturbed Black man. Just because you tube deleted my comment doesn't made it untrue. The part that gets me upset people in the political world are going to use her death but can find out who she was and if her family members knows she is dead.

Does anyone know the victim's name? Has she been identified, and her family members noticed of her death? The politicians, leaders, and their supporters are using her death against migrants and immigration but no one has told us who she was? Someone made a comment to my response saying she wasn't homeless and going for her phd, but gave no other personal information about her. Before anyone uses her death, can we know her name, at least! At 1:03 of this video, thank you for saying that part out loud that the officer in that video didn't do anything to say the victim. However, I also blame the people were video taping and made no attempt to put the flames out on her body.

I saw it and clicked off because I didn’t think it was real. I didn’t know it was real until later on during the day. I can NOT get the image out of my head. I thought it was a prank. I didn’t watch it for long but to now know that what I saw was real is terrible. 😔😔😔😔

Bruh, the story can’t be about all of these things. It’s about, if this individual wasn’t allowed here illegally, this incident would not have happened. As far as the cop, obviously he froze. You not trained for something like this. You can sit up say what you would have done, but until thrust into that situation, you never know.

It should be a story about illegal immigration. Why would you be worried if the right uses this incident? It clearly evidences their claim about undocumented immigrants and why a strong border is important.

@@abumansaray7 you are trying to protray immigrants as inherently evil and you are using a tragic situation to do so. The statistics do not support the generalization you are insuating. What we do know and have evidence for, is that cops continuely abuse the rights of everyday citizens and fail to act in situations of need such as this.
