"The fact that I work on so many different types of products, is not because I want to do it for the sake of doing it. You know, it's not like, let's say, a box-ticking exercise for me. I view my role as a sort of troubleshooting. I'm kind of a gun for hire. Most of the clients that I have, they've identified a need to be able to look differently at how a problem might be solved. And I view it as a problem, because if it wasn't a problem, they wouldn't be coming to me. They'd be doing it themselves. And it's with those sorts of fresh eyes that I think small breakthroughs can be made."
This is Marc Newson's Life Story.
Marc Newson has been described as one of the most influential designers of his generation. He has worked across an extremely wide range of disciplines, and his clients include some of the best-known and most prestigious brands in the world spanning diverse sectors from manufacturing and technology to transportation, fashion, and the luxury goods sector.
Over two months, The Hour Glass has premiered a series of short films on nine of the world’s leading contemporary artists and independent watchmakers. Featuring: Maximilian Büsser (MB&F), Sir David Adjaye OBE RA (Adjaye Associates), Rexhep Rexhepi (Akrivia), Daniel Arsham, Wieki Somers (Studio Wieki Somers), Roger W. Smith, Marc Newson, Oki Sato (nendo), Felix Baumgartner & Martin Frei (URWERK). Commissioned by The Hour Glass, these portraits profile the journey of these cultural wunderkinds and document their dedication to their craft.
