Marc Russo like you've never seen him! This amazing solo was filmed at Yoshi's San Francisco with the Tommy Igoe Groove Conspiracy, also featuring Tom Politzer of Tower of Power.

This is a Calypso "Organic Real Jazz" improvisation of surrealistic magnitude and exuberance from Marc Russo. Where are the executive producers, advertisers, entrepreneurs and critics? Marc is setting the Public Plaza on fire!

Without Russo, The Yellowjackets would never had been in the position to hire a replacement. He was it and made them what they are. Give credit when it’s due.

Mintzer is a solid tenor player. You cannot possibly compare Mintzer to the fire and musicality of Russo. That’s simply absurd. Pick up a horn sometime and learn to play. You’ll soon find out that playing Mintzer lines is a whole lot more accessible to you than even trying to imagine covering Russo.

For folks wondering the song is called Why Not? Look for Paquito D'Rivera or Michel Camilo for other recordings.

From what I can fell with his front pearl F, and knowing some history about russo, this is most likely his Selmer Mk vi. he's had this way back into his yellow jacket days. As for his mouthpiece, he uses either a Myer 5 or 6.

But He use vintage Meyer?And on this video not Mark 6
@micheldrake1001
@micheldrake1001 7 жыл бұрын
Konsta Sedneff this would be his Mark VI. Russo has played on one for years. Sure he's seen in a cannonball video on here and has probably played many horns, but his front f, the right hand palm trill keys, style of neck, and the iconic ring that connects the body and bell would indicate that. as for the Myer moutbpice, yeah it can be vintage, but they as well as many other vintage pieces would have a size for the chamber he was a 5 or 6. it's something I would have to do a little research on size wise for accuracy. I have listened to him on many records and on here a lot and he has used that Selmer for many years and recordings/gigs. You can't beat that set up. Phil woods used it for years. Just because I said Myer didn't mean it was a new one, but the 5 or 6 is simply the size of the piece. I play on a Selmer s 80 c** for Classical and my beecher diamond 5 medium for jazz. the size doesn't have to do much with age. my Selmer piece is from the 70's and my diamond inlay is brand new. I've also played on the Mark VI among many Selmer, and Yamaha horns. I've actually played on many horns outside those names as well, but you would have to realize there's characteristics about his horn that would indicate it's a Mark VI. I don't want to fight with you over this. I do however want to give more insight to that earlier comment and maybe clear up your confusion. I used a bit of my own gear to get into the usage of a number next to a mouthpiece doesn't have to do with age. they had vintage Myer 5 and 6 pieces. I have a great friend who played on a vintage Myer 5 and because you just can't beat that pair he played on a Mark VI. The number would be getting into the chamber and bore of the piece and for most have something to do with the tip opening.
