It seems like everyone else was on the same page about what this docuseries was going to be about, so I wonder what was so different about Marc Summers. Why keep him out of the loop at all? To get a genuine reaction out of him for that Ariana clip?

It’s probably to get his reaction of when the period of nick was shortly after it transitioned from when it was originally called pinwheel and his tenure on nick before Dan. So I don’t think he was fully disclosed what it was about until sometime later to see if they can get him to say anything. The man has had battles with cancer and for the most part has no controversies. Originally double dare filmed in Philly before being moved to Orlando and then from there some nick GAS ( Games and Sports) shows in Los Angeles lasted until he transitioned to Food Network around 2002. His tenure is from 1986-2002. Only thing I can tell you is the executives at nick have for a very long time been doing plausible deniability. The only thing I can state that happened is lost double dare episodes in which children were injured. One had Brittle bones (family filed under perjury; this episode never made it to air) and that incident scared mark off set and made him sick. The other got injured in a “sewer chute” and executives changed their policy in which children couldn’t have parents in legal professions (at least in double dare; I have no idea if they did a full blanket policy after this). Kid won a large tv because of parent being an Attorney. So there could also be NDAs in regards to those incidents though those I would say most of what I listed was out of Mark Summers’ control. I hope that’s all that happened but this is why the truth needs to come out. Edits made to clarify years etc.

We all love and grew up with Marc. He was there before all the sick stuff the series discusses. I thought him being in it seemed so out of place because he didn't belong in it period. He's an icon and a treasure. ❤

Hear is the thing Mark Summers said years ago that he didn't trust Dan Schneider. That means they met once he just didn't know him. But once was enough. Mark was vocal to the Nick executives that he didn't trust this guy, but they wouldn't listen, so that's why Mark left Nickelodeon. Put in mind this was before All That even started, but Nickelodeon was already enabling Dan

Marc was good at his job at Nickelodeon, and he didn’t want the kids to be abused. The executives would rather cut ties with him and enable the child abuse than have him stay and let the kids be safe.

Even if I was "ambushed", I wouldn't mind because this documentary is important. It's not like they made him look bad. He reacted how he should have when seeing the Ariana video. I don't get why he's so upset.

Because the content he filmed wasn’t even throughly included at least in the beginning, if all he’s reacting to is a clip he hasn’t seen before? What is the point, he didn’t even bring up Dans name once,

The directors and journalists shouldn’t be vague or lie by omission with things like this. It makes it look like yellow journalism where they are trying to farm the most sensationalized bits. With this type of content you need full context, you need to be transparent with the people you interview. Boundaries and consent. It’s a compromising situation and people lack media literacy and rely on optics. They see a senior aged man who was an adult during the heyday of nickelodeon, they’ll assume the worse about him and it becomes a trial by public opinion. Of course, he’s done nothing wrong and was responsible for helping nicks genesis to mainstream in the early 90s. He’s not tied to Dan and he likely thought they were gonna interview him on his career and ‘safer’ topics. It would be upsetting to anyone to be filmed reacting to young children doing inappropriate things on camera from the company you helped popularize. It does become kind of interrogative, meanwhile he wasn’t apart of that gen of nick, or at least was working different sets and was phasing out as a producer on other projects.

It's definitely an important topic, but it's also an upsetting (and potentially triggering) topic. This kind of exploitation of kid actors isn't a topic you just spring on someone without warning them about first. He had every right get up and leave if he didn't feel comfortable talking about it. Especially since it seems he never knew Dan and wasn't even really involved with Nick anymore during all this.

I believe Marc as this happens in the TV and film industry all the time for all kinds of reasons. More than likely In this case, they definitely wanted to get a "real" reaction out of Marc. I do not believe they thought he knew about Dan, hence showing him the material. Withholding information to actors is a tactic the film industry (directors) use in order to get more "authentic" reactions for certain scenes. It can go from, Alan Rickman for example, who wasn't warned when he'd be dropped exactly in Die Hard so his reaction in the film is genuine to a whole list of people who have been assaulted and sexually assaulted (yes) also without consent for "authentic" reactions. If Hollywood is willing to do all that, I can see the people on this show not telling someone the real nature of a doc only to ambush them at the interview.

Oh my gosh, this same thing happened with Quentin Tarantino not telling Uma Thurman that the car crash in K🍿ll Bill 🎥. The orchestrated car crash into the tree or a wall or something was going to be much more catastrophic (!) than originally told. Uma Thurman actually talks about this and how after the crash, and called the car "a deathbox" when she realized that her legs were stuck in the driver’s compartment area, she didn’t know if she was going to be able to walk again…!

It also revealed that maybe it was inappropriate. But, i think dan was poking fun at the ornography industry rather than endorsing it with the Ariana stuff. It should never have been done because of her AGE, but it looks like social satire and commentary.

Yeah someone who has briefly worked in Hollywood. I can honestly tell you that producers are never completely forthcoming about anything. You are on the need to know basis. And if it doesn't benefit the producer, you are not going to be told. I have a very suspect feeling that they knew he would react that way when they ambushed him. They didn't care about that. What they cared about was capturing his reaction when they showed him something for the first time about Dan Schneider. That's what they were after. And they will lie till the end of time about being up front and honest. That's just what they do. To be a producer in Hollywood You have to turn a blind eye to a lot of things and you have to be ruthless. That's why I left the industry. I had a conscience and could not do that kind of stuff

How about you go to Disney and try this bet they have a lot more dirty secrets than nick. Seriously this is the entertainment industry not saying what happened to some of these kids were right but they Chose to get into a very serious business not to mention a legal contract. You chose this business and there is always a risk now these people who made this documentary have took it to far you don’t set someone up for an interview and hide what your actually filming.

Marc is a good guy and he rightly remembers Nickelodeon as it was in its golden age. This "docuseries" was made for financial reasons and contains little more than false innuendos, convenient re-interpretations of past events, and downright lies in some cases. The participants keep complaining about not getting residual checks that they were never owed.

No, that’s not what was said. He cleared up that he didn’t know Dan, or what happened on the DAN Shows. Therefore how is he or his experience related to this documentary? Not everyone had the same experience, so how can their experiences shed light on the bad? Many ex nickeldeon stars came forward and said similar things. Stop taking things out of context.
