Marc Yaffee • Part 4 American Indian Comedy Slam: Funny not filthy, Marc Yaffee’s relevant and relatable humor skewers sacred cows, dissects societal stupidities and confronts common frustrations, all with humanity and humor. Marc Yaffee’s diverse comedy career has landed him in 43 states and 11 countries spanning 4 continents. Additionally, Marc may be the only comedian with the distinction of air, land and sea comedic credits. He’s entertained Alaska Airlines passengers at 30,000 feet, performed on a flat-bed truck for U.S. Marines in Iraq (while getting his head shaved), and done comedy for Holland America Cruise ship passengers on the high seas, pre Corona, but post Tequila. Marc Yaffee is a founder co-star and producer of the Powwow Comedy Jam. Marc won the Ventura Comedy Festival’s “Funniest Person Contest” in 2012. This was Marcs first national appearance in this groundbreaking stand-up comedy special "Goin Native: The American Indian Comedy Slam, No Reservations Needed," A.K.A The Native American Comedy Slam that originally premiered on the Showtime Networks.

In Canada we had the AIM Program and the 60’s Scoop. We were kidnapped by the cops, social workers and adopted to non indigenous people. Most of us ended up in homes where we experienced severe child abuse, some were lucky and had loving homes. I lost everything, my family, my languages, my culture and traditions, my treaty rights. But we are a strong people 🔥 ♥️ Thanks for the medicine. 🙏

Funny! I am enrolled Cherokee Nation. Our tribe is the largest federally recognized tribe in the US with over 300,000 strong. The Navajo are now actually the second largest tribe. There are alot of us and we are spread out all over the world. The Cherokees were a big tribe to begin with and we intermarried with many other ethnic groups in addition to caucasion and either migrated or were forced out of our original homeland early on. In otherwords, we got around! It is always possible that someone who claims a Cherokee ancestor, but who is not enrolled, actually does have Cherokee blood. I never assume that they are lying. Instead I share stories about my own Cherokee ancestors and encourage them to share their stories with me. Some amazing things have happened by approaching this issue in an open minded way. Yes, there are a few 'fake' Cherokees who are trying to be something they are not, but that is rare in my experience.

My grandmother and her two elder brothers were sent to a catholic boarding school and beaten until they stopped speaking our language. A nun tossed my gma down a full flight of stairs at age 6 for catching her praying in Cherokee, broke both her collar bones. To this day she has refused to ever teach me or her kids the language, she says oh I don’t remember it... yeah ok sure thing lol. Love that crazy woman, going to see her today!

Seriously! It's always a princess when.....we didn't even have monarchies! One of my elders said once " if someone tells you they have our blood and say their name is something beautiful like ' floating feather running river ' than just know either 1: they are lying or 2: they were lied to, cuz our ppl don't have pretty names cuz we are to busy working and surviving to earn a fluffy light spirited name no, deer stomper? Yep. Any hard gritty mashed up name that no one would call any kind of pretty . ....that's one of us." And he's right . It's very harmful for our ppl for others to claim native heritage based on a random unchecked family rumor or the old " well my brother had high cheek bones and tanned well in the summer so we have some Indian in us for sure" claim when russian, irish, polish, Asian, west african ect type blood will/can produce the same thing so to claim that as your proof of native roots is bogus since its only right that i prove blood quantum so the ppl saying this crap should have to as well. Just the fact a person knows they live 100% without native culture in any way then to claim it when voicing opinions on issues that really effect us is a source of allot of harmful painful ways and wrong impressions given to others about what truly effects us and involves us.....man I'm tired of it. Find your real culture and ethnicity and be proud of it cuz it's beautiful to know your real roots.

They actually have a PBS-affiliated Native American TV channel called FNX (First Nations Experience). They broadcast everything from a cooking show hosted by a NA chef who cooks NA dishes, using traditional NA ingredients (beans, squash, corn, bison, types of berries I'd never heard of..etc.), to NA children's shows which teach both traditional NA stories, and how to speak certain NA languages), to a documentary on a NA girls' soccer team in rural Canada, to a documentary on saving at risk reservation teens by putting them in an immersive class about their particular nation's history and culture. You can pick it up in a lot of places in the U.S., like Chicago. It's really good.

The Dreamcatcher hypnotism. I'd relocate as a citizen to India if it were possible. It's where I live. Also, I was tricked into thinking that we were Cherokees by someone lying a long time ago. It turns out that our NA part is really mixed with India, Pima, and Central American in that order.

My family from AR has one photo of my great great grandmother and she's def native. But the best way to confirm is a DNA test. It'll tell you if there's any percentage and how much was passed down and how long ago it entered your family DNA. It's really cool some of the tests they do these days

I really like their style of comedy, its dignified, its sober and its simple, no pretense. You don't need alcohol to have fun. Because if you think about it, there are plenty of times during the day when funny things happen, and you laugh your ass off, without being drunk. I didn't get the Irish bit, i thought his non biological dad is Jewish?, anyway i'm Irish myself, like actually from Ireland, these are honestly some of the best comedians I have seen for years, way funnier than most of the modern white American comedians, who i think are very over hyped, Bill Burr is funny, Joe Rogan, Joey Diaz, the rest don't do it for me, never knew what people saw in Jerry Seinfeld, and most of those sit coms make me yawn myself to shit. But yeah, these guys are great, five stars.

My great grandfather was Native American but no record of him was ever found or what tribe he belonged too. I have the only picture of my grandfather and one look at his face and you can tell he’s Native American. I live about 65 miles Northeast of our state capital in Pennsylvania. How can I find out what tribe I belong to and what percentage of blood I am based on the fact my great grandfather was pure full blooded Native American. Is there an organization I can contact for this information?

If the white man would've never came here my brother would be free as well as other innocent people. Our ways should be a way of life for us not the white man's way. If we don't live the white man's way then we're wrong and guilty and sent to prison just like Geronimo. I hate how things are. I always imagine how life would be. I pray to God that He sends them back to where they came from.
