This music gave me so much comfort when my dad died suddenly. I played it going through his empty house, looking for him. He wasn’t there and the feeling was desolate, but the music helped. 😢

Not that I am a skilled musician or an expert but I do love hearing people taking on Erik Satie on Gnosiennes and Gymnopedie. This is one of the finest examples on youtube, sounds way better than your Gymnopedie take for some reason. I wish I could listen to you live. Best of luck, you are a magician.

I immediately liked the colours, the lighting and the camera angles. It feels very intimate, but for me the Gnossiennes always sounded not very intimate, but rather introspective and also a bit distanced. But this setting makes them more "revealing". Also very comfy piano chair ^^ Thank you for uploading this very beautiful recording of Satie!

Foarte talentat, bravo!

A wonderful performance Lazar. Thanks for sharing your music on KZbin. I’m curious to know which Gnossienne the most difficult? For me no. 5 is a real challenge with all the changing chords, and crazy right hand, and key change in the middle! But it is beautiful. No 3 is fantastic. Well done. Long live Satie!

Beautiful, I always rip apart youtube pianists for their rendition of famous pieces like a snob want a be intellectual. Its hard to beat some of these recordings especially if it was the first you heard and fell in love with times over. I never thought about playing Gnossenes like this and its just so resonant and brilliant. I hope to one day interpit a piece unique and superior to famous recordings like you just did. I never loved Gnossines until now. Have you ever heard "Pieces Froides"?

I really like your interpretation. Your choice of tempo and dynamics are those I prefer the most. However, what edition are you using? I hear a couple of things quite different from usual: a couple of slurs missing in no1 (which lead to repeating notes) and a whole passage missing in no4 ...
@MarcelLazar Жыл бұрын
Hello! I use some 2006 edition from imslp. I checked the slurs and it looks like it is all played how its written... but about nr 4, you are right!! :)) crazy... not me, not the sound engineer noticed that... but as I said, was a late evening, and we did more of an experiment, it was not intended to be the best recording, maybe I will do another one though :) thanks for feedback!
@giancarlomarra9067 Жыл бұрын
@@MarcelLazar Hi! Thanks for answering! Yes, I had seen that edition (Les Edition Outremontaises ?). I rejected it immediately because they strangely added the bar lines! Something stranger than the Satie's decision of not using them ;-) (I think he - Pierre Gouin - used some editing software that required them, but, hey!) Actually, a first time (1 bar after "questionnez") the slur is missing, while the second time (1 bar after "postulez en vous-meme") it is there. You play them accordingly. But I think it is a (minor?) error of the editor. All the other editions I know have the slur in both places and, in all the interpretations I've heard, the F is never repeated after the appoggiatura. That's why I immediately got the difference. Just compare to the other editions you can find on IMSLP (Salabert, Peters) and other executions on KZbin. With respect to the missing section in No4... it may happen :-) Even Reinbert de Leew missed a long passage in No4 in a late live recording (11:10 here kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5OsloynpdNjfc0). ;-) But one does not judge the interpretations from these things ! Thank you and good luck for your work ! (PS. My favorite one: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYXNlaSMa9B4r9U )

Very beautifully played, did you know there is a 7th Gnossienne?
@andreewert19254 ай бұрын
Satie's example guided a new generation of French composers away from post-Wagnerian impressionism towards a sparer, terser style. Among those influenced by him during his lifetime were Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, and Francis Poulenc, and he is seen as an influence on more recent composers such as John Cage and John Adams. His harmony is often characterised by unresolved chords, he sometimes dispensed with bar-lines, as in his Gnossiennes, and his melodies are generally simple and often reflect his love of old church music. He gave some of his later works absurd titles, such as Veritables Preludes flasques (pour un chien) ("True Flabby Preludes (for a Dog)", 1912), Croquis et agaceries d'un gros bonhomme en bois ("Sketches and Exasperations of a Big Wooden Man", 1913) and Sonatine bureaucratique ("Bureaucratic Sonatina", 1917). Most of his works are brief, and the majority are for solo piano. Exceptions include his "symphonic drama" Socrate (1919) and two late ballets Mercure and Relâche (1924). Satie never married, and his home for most of his adult life was a single small room, first in Montmartre and, from 1898 to his death, in Arcueil, a suburb of Paris. He adopted various images over the years, including a period in quasi-priestly dress, another in which he always wore identically coloured velvet suits, and is known for his last persona, in neat bourgeois costume, with bowler hat, wing collar, and umbrella. He was a lifelong heavy drinker, and died of cirrhosis of the liver at the age of 59. Source..Wikipedia
