Marcello: Oboe Concerto in C minor
Leon Goossens with the Philharmonia String Orchestra conducted by Walter Susskind
Recorded April 22, 1947, in EMI's Studio No. 1, Abbey Road, London, on Columbia 78-rpm matrices CAX 9867 through 9869. Issued in September, 1947, as English Columbia DX 1389 and DX 1390. The concerto takes three sides; the filler is an Arioso by Fiocco, which has been uploaded separately.
This concerto by Alessandro Marcello (1669-1747) is perhaps his best-known work; Bach thought highly enough of it to transcribe it for solo harpsichord (BWV 974). It is in three movements:
1. Allegro moderato
2. Adagio (at 3:45)
3. Allegro (at 8:00)
