Great to see you again! Thanks for the update. You mentioned your improved lighting, then I saw at 18:21, what looks like fluorescent tubes (FT). Maybe they are the LED replacement type? If not, and I know this would mean more work, but if they are FT, you might want to consider going LED. Either replacement tubes or the whole unit. I did a year ago and would never consider using FT again. The LED are not only much more energy efficient and at the same time are much brighter, but FT dim with time. LED will not. I bought a pack of 10 4 footers online and each might weigh a pound - maybe.
@EverettsWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bob! I hear you that many are going to LED now. The thing is that around here the LED tubes are still more money than the fluorescent tubes, and I already had a bunch of fixtures. There are a couple LED lamps in the shop now, one above the lathe, one above the surface plate, and some LED lighting above my desk. Those 3 lamps cost twice what it cost me to get all the rest of the shop lighting installed - fluorescent fixtures up and all using daylight tubes. Might revisit the lighting down the road as tubes fail but for now this got me going affordably.

Thanks Paul, I'm thankful it's finally coming together here. The shaper is an Alba 1A, my guess is wartime production given the Wartime Emergency Standard sized fasteners and the shapes of some of the parts compared to newer ones. It's not perfect, but I have "had it to bits," as you would say as it needed a lot of TLC when I got it. Just thankful to have one, they're hard to find here now.

Yeah, it hurts to wait until your shop is functional, especially when it takes over a year, lol . . . thanks for coming by again!

Thanks Gary! I'm just thankful right now for a warm home, and now the bonus of having a space to play. So many right now have neither that, nor even a semblance of safety. We are more blessed than we realize.

You have a 12x36 king lathe. I have been thinking about getting one but I haven't seen any reviews and I would like to hear what you think. Cheers

How is the trucker strike affecting your area and have they stopped the mandates ?
@EverettsWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Hey, how are you? There have been some protests in downtown Edmonton, which is nearby, and from what I gather the mandates for truckers have been relaxed. I've been home with kids most of the time so I have not been in the city much lately to see how the traffic has been affected.

It's a great shop. Much better than mine. :(
@EverettsWorkshop2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Antal, this is just what I have to work with at the moment, it is now on me to make good use of it and have something to show for myself. Any shop is better than no shop, and I have seen some of the cool work that you have uploaded on your channel too, so please don't take this video as one where I am bragging. There are others who have bigger home shops, more machines, etc. but that doesn't matter. As Rustinox says, as hobbyists, what matters is that we ENJOY our time in our shops!

@@EverettsWorkshop That's correct. I upload only pictures nowdays to instagram. I did not had time to capture work. Finally i will be able to build a real workbench with a tool wall and the mess will be gone from the shop floor.

Hey Ed! I haven't had a chance to use the mill yet, even after installing the spacer a couple days ago. We'll see how it goes - I have a project I want to do where I think I'll need the height for sure, but if it turns out to be too high I now know how to install and remove it if necessary.

Thanks! And yes, lol, this last year has not been the easiest for us in some ways, so I do look a bit older. And rounder. I didn't notice until editing . . . I seriously need some exercise, lol! 😂

Lol, thanks, I'm still doing ok overall, just busy and tired like many of us. That will be a nice lathe once you're done it, those old Colchesters have a charm all their own. My email address is everettsworkshop@gmail.com if you want to give me a shout!
