Hello, I am a young Frenchwoman passionate about falconary since childhood. I have a question for you, are your two harris imprinted ? I am only 16 years old, and later, I intend to have my first bird, a male harris hawk to begin with. I like the behavior of your hawks, they are rather very cool for bird of prey, that's why I ask you if they are impregnated or not. My birds are not imprinted. US culture is to not imprint HHs as a general rule as they calm down very well already and imprinting can cause more trouble than it solves. My male however is from a line of selective breeding for temperament and hunting that's been going on for several decades and he acts much differently than my half wild stock female. I've heard that males are tamer in the first place anyway though. But the most important thing is that you get out what you put in, spending tons of time with them when they are new will benefit you for years to come. Also, find someone there who can help you along the way and in person, a lot of technique is physical and is really hard to learn from a book. Good luck!

Is your Aplo having success in your neck of the woods?

She's only caught that one dove in January. We're hesitant to fly her on starlings because she will carry and we had trouble finding suitable quarry. We were still figuring her out too. Hopefully next season will be better!

@@FalconryWithBtal Dang -- I really wanted to fly one in Indiana but if you guys are having problems, I'll probably have to rethink that.

@@thecggames I think my biggest mistake in getting her was not scouting fields ahead of time (surprise, surprise) because I wasn't expecting to get her. I think if you have scouted appropriately ahead of getting the bird you'd be better off. They need similar slips to a merlin in my opinion, so if you know someone who can show you what good merlin slips look like over there that will be huge.
