I work in psychiatric care at a hospital. For safety reasons, carrying a knife, something I always have on me outside of work, is not an option. One of my responsibilities is ordering supplies for our unit, and so I open a lot of packages. That Nite Ize Doohickey has come to be one of my most useful and most used tools. That edge is just sharp enough to open boxes easily, but not sharp enough to break skin.

I stopped carrying a load of stuff on my person. I keep a Vanquest edcm huge maximizer pouch in my car's console, loaded with goodies. For long trips, it's a Vanquest trident 21 backpack that's more of a 72-96 hour survival pack. On my person are keys in a Northwall leather organizer, open sea leather wallet, folded cotton bandana (something you're missing), folding knife (choice of over 70), Roryvon aurora a3 flashlight attached to my keys as well as a Victorinox sd classic, and a firearm in my right front pocket. M&P bodyguard .380 or 9mm shield. Retired and living in Florida, I'm in shorts most of the time. Tru-spec or LAPG tactical shorts which are just cargo shorts made of a stiffer material than regular cargos.

Hey Dom, nice video, I like solar watches too and have been carrying the Casio solar for 10 years and have had no issues with it. It has had a lot of hard use, but it still ticks so I still wear it. My knife and multitool hasn’t really changed with carrying an old Leatherman PST that my dad gave me and carrying the Victorinox Camper which has recently upgraded to the ROXON KS2 which is great since I wanted a multitool that gave me scissors without becoming much thicker. Thanks for all your work and am looking forward to those watches to get a nicer one for different purpose.

Always enjoy your content. As I have said in the past I am a minimalist when it comes my baseline EDC. The tool set that cover 90%+ of daily needs are a blade of some sort. Philips and flathead, scissors, file and bottle opener. Anything, else on the multitool is extra. Add a flashlight, pepper spray and some very basic first aid stuff and that rounds it out. I fill out my kit based on need of the day. I have a backpact full of stuff including a full first aid kit in my car. You hinted at a knive for possible self defense use but I don't advise that unless have no other option and you are well trained. Few people are. If you have self defense concerns and you live in most States a firearm is a far superior option.

I don't find myself using a pencil much anymore, but my favorite is the Pentel Sharplet-2 0.7mm. I also EDC lysterine spray, and Altoids mints.

They flashlight attachment for the key organizer is brilliant. I've been wondering why combo flashlights are so rare or else awful, like the few Victorinox knives with mini lights. For casual minute or so usage, most EDC flashlights are major overkill. But something attached to a key organizer or SAK that's actually, you know, good would be perfect to always have on you.

Generally speaking the smaller you make something the less durable and replaceable the parts are for that thing because you're trying to minimize space used. So a lot of tiny flashlights end up using button/wafer/watch style batteries have locked pressfit construction and stuff like that which are a pain in the ass or impossible to replace and have the longevity of wet paper. In contrast even the shittiest "overkill" edc flashlights can usually have their batteries replaced if they burn out and will last for years at the minimum. Even lights that are known for proprietary charging like Olight with their magnetic charging can largely have the battery easily removed from the casing.

After some experimentation, I've downsized to a Victorinox jetsetter thst I wear all the time, a Keysmart for keys and a few other tools, and an altoids tin that is mostly meds and such. I am considering switching out the jetsetter for a Manager, as then I can drop the micro pen from the tin and the nail file in the key smart. That should get my keys down enough to retire the Keysmart and just make my own mini organizer with a shackle and some leather, or similar. The concern is the mini blade, as I am always wary of public carrying a blade, even a small one. I've not decided about getting the midnight manager with the light. It seems like an upgrade, but I've heard bad things about the Victorinox flashlights. I'm all about light and efficient carry. Stuff I can forget about until I need it, and doesn't hurt the lines in my pants. :-)

On the subject of convenient flashlights. i have a flashlight on my watch and it's like the most convenient thing ever. not even the BS things that apple does where it just makes the screen brighter but an actual light. its a garmin instinct 2x solar which great because as long i spend enough time hiking or going out on runs/walks its basically always charged and even on cloudy days i always have a usb cable to charge with. Its specifically the instinct because it has a black and white lcd like a my old casio so its really energy efficient and i typically get over a month on a charge and according to garmin "infinite" battery which doesn't apply to their flagship models since the color screen is such a battery hog. Anyway onto my real question. The major con is that its a $300 watch. i was wondering if you've come across something more budget friendly that might be nice as a beater or backup? something with a rechargable light/led built into a watch or even a watch strap. im thinking if a company ditched all the "smart watch" features and just kept it bare bones watch and light with possibly a separate battery for the light bit maybe even cut out the solar charging they could easily keep it under 100 bucks. hell it would probably be under 50. some of the casios in my watch collection were like 10-15 bucks from walmart.
