Happy March gardening!! March is a really exciting time because there are so many seeds you can started inside, under cover and also inside for transplant later. This month you can start all of the heat loving plants like peppers, tomatoes and eggplants. We are so close to our last frost date and this month is warmer than the others so far (usually). I feel like March is always the turning point for the garden as far as starting it and we are just around the corner from delicious harvests (I am getting ahead of myself).
Happy gardening and let me know if you liked the video or if you have any questions. Thank you.

Yay!! Our climate is so different from other 8b zones. Arizona is also 8b but we sure have different summers, lol. I do think we have the best area to garden in!! Thank you for watching.

I live near Vancouver, WA. The slugs were really bad when I moved here 2 years ago. I had never seen leopard slugs before and was really amazed and slightly horrified when I first saw them all over the place. It’s so hard to take it slow, I spend Nov. to Feb. staring longingly out the window at my bare flower beds. March rolls around and I’m spending it trying to keep the brakes set.

When I lived in Washington I didn't even have to dig down in the dirt I just set a bowl out with stale beer in it and they would crawl right into it and die a much better solution than when I first moved out there everyone told me to pour salt on them which is very gross and leaves a big snotty streak as well as pretty horrifying.😢

The slugs are always crazy here. I have heard really good things about the beer traps but I haven’t used them. I have ducks so I just toss a bowl without looking and run away lol.

You know, I did do another flower video but it did so bad I did not continue making them. For me, aside from dahlia seeds, I tend to wait till it is warmer and start them outside or in the greenhouse (the veggies take my inside space).

Hello from Tenino! Great video, happy to come across your channel. We moved into a new home this year so are starting the garden from almost scratch and this is really helpful. +1 to the beer as slug bait - In my last garden in Portland from a couple years ago I was always shocked how many slugs would appear in the little trays by morning (and I convinced myself they went out blissfully lol)

I just so enjoy your videos. Since I have a mole issue (they love my garden) I'm planting daffodils around my raised beds, they say moles do not like them, we'll see. I have my stale coors light beer traps out, they work. Thank you for your videos.

Thank you, and thank you for watching. I need to buy beer for the slugs, lol. I want to plant daffodils too, but for the rabbits. I have bad rabbit pressure and I heard rabbits hate daffodils.

@little roots ranch hello, I hear that daffodils are some what poisonous, however also that it's a rabbit, deer, etc deterrent? I'm wanting to get some ducks for the slugs(we have an abundance, for yard backs up to Forrest) just worry about predators.

Portland slugs 🐌 love the beer but I’ve found they’re the variety that writhe and coil till they reach container sides then crawl right up and out of the container. We have super slugs 😢. We tried all sorts of containers and depths and eventually switched to picking at night.

They are getting too smart for us. 😞 The slugs that are really big are always creepy to me but they are easier to see. Every year I feel like they get bigger.

Take a piece of copper wire and make a loop. Lay it flat and place a slug inside the wire. Watch the reaction. Now think of how to surround your stuff to slug proof. Make sure they can't get underneath it cause they will.

Do you find it works to transplant things like radishes, turnips, carrots, etc.? I would think that wouldn’t work well.
@littlerootsranch
@littlerootsranch 3 ай бұрын
Root veggies are never good to transplant because disturbance to the root causes misshapen veggies. Some farms do it, but they transplant the second growth starts but I would not recommend for the average gardener. I have had luck with beets, but I do transplant them the second they emerge.

Thank you so much! When do you usually start cucumbers?
@littlerootsranch
@littlerootsranch 2 жыл бұрын
When sowing cucumber seeds outdoors, germination is best when the soil temperature is at least 55 °F. Cucumbers are very sensitive to having their roots disturbed and do not transplant well if the have grown too large for their cell/cup/block so you want to make sure you do not start them too soon. I usually start mine at the end of April but I am going to experiment with some earlier starts for inside the greenhouse.

We had a mountain lion problem a couple years ago but not anymore. The ducks, chickens and turkeys are locked up at night to keep them safe. The ducks have only been at risk from owls, so I actually lock them up just before sundown.
