March Mayhem: Catching More Blue Crabs

Blue Crabs. In this video, I'll be crabbing in Charleston, South Carolina using two-ring crab traps rigged with pyramid weights and baited with chicken legs. It's March 10 and it is a beautiful, sunny day. The crabbing was steady and fun times were to be had.

You seem to catch a lot of small crabs here. It might be a good place to go late summer when the crabs are bigger. I find it hard to catch big crabs with ring nets around Charleston. The most keepers I ever caught was 15 at Pit street. Crabbing isn't the same as when we were kids. Back then we caught a hamper full in a few hours.

Yeah, most of March after the first week was rough, only 5 keepers over 5 days after starting the month with 10 in 2 days. The best I did at this location was 40 keepers, all 6"+ in the middle of December. Only started crabbing here in October so interested in seeing how things go over the next couple of months.
