I am the eldest son of Major Maximo P Young (endearingly called by us, his children, as Daddy Max), who was featured in the MARCH OF THE VALIANT. At that time, when he was assigned to be part of the Filipino contingent in the KOREAN WAR, (the PHILIPPINE EXPEDITIONARY FORCE TO KOREA, with the 10th BCT), he was a FIRST SERGEANT. He was decorated and conferred the highest military merit medal by the South Korean government with the TAEGEUK AWARD on July 27, 2016 for his heroic feat in the BATTLE OF MIUDONG (MURI), which was dubbed as the first battle won by Filipino soldiers in a foreign soil. Aside from the BATTLE OF MIUDONG, my Daddy Max also fought in the BATTLE OF YULDONG, where it was proudly announced that a battalion of about 1,000 soldiers vanquished a militia of 40,000 Chinese communists forces. Unfortunately, he passed away on January 29, 2022 at age 99. We are all proud of him as hero not only in the KOREAN War but also in the SECOND WORLD WAR where the US government then awarded him a SILVER STAR MEDAL for his heroic feats!

If I am not wrong, of all the nations sent, only the Phillipine troops were battle hardened ( after ww2, the Philippine army was still engaged in Communist insurgency up to the early and middle 50's ), though badly needed in the Philippines, it still sent troops to Korea. Pres Ramos was a West Point graduate, a Lieutenant then during the Korean War. It is also the culture of the Filipinos of not surrendering, they will use the last ammo and flee if need be to fight for another day.

Ever notice that when you watch old veterans being interviewed. The Filipinos always have a smile remembering their experience whilst Western soldiers seem to be doing the opposite. Not to diminish their experience of course. Just an observation. Kung walang peftok walang kpop. Glory to God! Nakakakilabot ang pagiingat ng Poong Maykapal sa mga Pilipinong sundalo. Sabi ng ni Douglas McArthur "Give me ten thousand Filipino soldiers and I will conquer the world! " Let it be true up to now. We need to prepare for another battle. May God be with us, The Philippines! 🇵🇭

One of the thing about Filipino soldiers in this video, they were thorough, descriptive but brief in the details. They also approach the narration as if they are briefing us the combat situation, analysis. It’s like we are there with them while the commander is telling the game plan.

Mad respect for all the soldiers that fought in the battle of Yultong especially for the 10th BCT. It must be tough to adjust & endure the sub-zero temperatures in SK when they don't even have a winter season in the Philippines! I'm in awe that President Elpidio Quirino sent his own son and son-in-law to fight the war when they didn't have to. I'm glad that they won the war and most of them came home safe and sound. One thing that's also striking and amazing is their good command of the english language even when it is just their 2nd or even their 3rd language outside of vernacular or mother- tongue. 😊
