I really think you might like The Medoran Chronicles by Lynette Noni! It is a YA fantasy set in a boarding school for people with extraordinary gifts. I fell in love with the world, but the characters, the friendships and the found family? Next level wholesome. It also has a slow burn relationship and a race of Meyarins who are kindaaaa like the fae. It has a lot of your favourite tropes so I think as long as you walk into it knowing its a young adult series you'll love it!!
