The Household Troops Band of The Salvation Army will take part in the oldest civic procession in the world, the Lord Mayor’s Show in London on Saturday 9 November 2013. The annual procession is more than three and a half miles long and involves 6,500 people, 22 marching bands, 125 horses, and a variety of floats, watched live by vast crowds and broadcast on TV to millions. We have contributed to more than 10 Lord Mayor’s Shows on behalf of The Salvation Army. Recognisable by our distinctive white military-style pith helmets, our musicians travel from all over the UK, some as far north as Glasgow, to appear every year. The Lord Mayor’s Show procession leaves Mansion House at 11am, travelling out via St Paul’s between 11am and 12.30pm, returning by the Embankment between 1:30pm and 2.30pm. Bandmaster Carl Saunders said: “It is a huge privilege to be invited back every year to take part in the Lord Mayor’s Parade. Marching through the City of London representing The Salvation Army’s global work as some half a million people look on is an incredible experience. "The crowds are buoyed up for the day and it is always exciting when people realise that we represent The Salvation Army and respond by cheering the band in recognition of our movement’s work.” Visit www.lordmayorsshow.org/ for more details.
