I know this video has been out for a while, but that new alt commander from the caverns of ixalan precon would feat really good on this one as well. Don Andres, the Renegade gives menace, deathtouch and +2/+2 to creatures you don't own. Also great video!

Love how things change. In the upgrade section it suggested to replaced Threaten with Domineering Will, with the former at 14 cents and later at 4.50, but now Threaten is .79 cents and Domineering Will at .49 cents

Building a budget Marchesa deck about a year ago was what actually got me back to playing commander! Great to see bit of nostalgia since I included many of the same cards! There is also a lot of upgrades and directions the deck can go. Last thing Flayer of the Hatebound is much more spice then you make him seem in the video. You can play him and sac him immediately - he comes back with undying - you sac him again and he comes back with Marchesa at the end of the turn. That is 45 damage per turn cycle in a 4 player game just by sacrificing the Flayer!

What about Grave Betrayal? when an opponents creatures dies they come under your control with a +1 +1 counter

Sure is a good card specially for marquesa but the casting cost is too big and honestly i never really hve use it and when i have it in hand is more of a pain because i cant play it or whatever.I ended up removing it

Mitch, reasonable upgrade might be Butcher of Malakir as well. We want our opponents feel really bad, so it might be helpful to force them to sac for example hexproofed creatures that we cant steal and so get rid of them. You're doing a freaking amazing job, please don't stop "sharing" your crazy MTG super brain with us

I also like to play Mikaeus, the Unhallowed with Marchesa. Their abilities fit together really crazy. Though it's a shame that Mikaeus' undying-ability only counts for non-human-creatures.

Especially in the upgrades I would put a minimum of 3-4 ways of protecting your commander. This is the kind of deck that does great with a commander out but if they just murder your commander. So a pair of lightning grieves in addition to swiftfood boots would do well. Also things like Mask of avacyn and spidersilk cloak.

Agreed! The only reason I don't do that is that Lightning Greaves and Swiftfoot Boots would show up in every single deck upgrades, and I want to show cards outside of those.

That's not as necessary as you'd think. Anything that can add counters to Marchesa counts as protection for her, since her ability will bring her back, too. I like Metallic Mimic (naming wizard, usually, due to the rest of my deck), Olivia, Mobilized for War, and Sage of Fables for that, though they're not particularly budget. On the cheaper end would be things like Amok, Fabrication Module, or Simic Fluxmage for repeatable effects, or Ancestral Vengeace, Essence Capture, and Subtle Strike for one time use.

A idea for a reasonable upgrade is to put solemn simacrum in, for each time it dies you draw a card then get to search for a land when it comes back in, value is what I call it

Some guy named Mitch gave me the idea to buy a bunch of neurok stealthsuits. I put one of them in my Marchesa thief deck. I built mine a little differently than yours, so this was really fun to see what we had in common and what was different. I like your self-damaging ideas - I need to incorporate more of that.

This is fantastic. I'd been looking for a new commander that uses red, since I underplay it. Marchesa always intrigued me, but I already had a +1/+1 counter themed deck and didn't want redundancy. Hey Mitch, have you ever considered going through and revising some of your older videos decklists? For instance, a bad fetchland you used to run in your decks, Terminal Moraine, is now up to $3. Its a very less than ideal land, especially for that pricepoint.

IMO the first thing you should be doing anyways is taking out some of those lands and rocks and putting in some great ones you can SHARE between your decks. I mean Command Sphere, Command Tower, Sol Ring, Exotic Orchard.

I love how optimized this deck is. There are cards I didnt think of for my Marchesa that I'll have to get! Thank you. A 5 color Nekuzar deck is another fun deck that I have. The goal is basically the same as Nekuzar with more options, such as Lorescale Coatl, Horizon Chimera or Rites of Florishing. I also have a sneaky Lab Maniac and Enter the Infinite in case I mill myself out. I used Ramos as the commander but there are many good options. Its a pretty fun deck that will get everyone drawing tons of cards. I love interesting decks that mess with everyone

I like a little bit of lifegain in Marchesa. Mainly in the form of Basilisk Collar, Disciple of Bolas, and Gray Merchant. It helps if people have been attacking you or you just want some extra uses out of cards like Unspeakable Symbol.

This deck looks like the perfect home for a card I have always wanted to see played in EDH; "illicit auction" 3RR Each player may bid life for control of target creature. You start the bidding with a bid of 0. In turn order, each player may top the high bid. The bidding ends if the high bid stands. The high bidder loses life equal to the high bid and gains control of target creature. (This effect lasts indefinitely) The pure chaos this card brings is great, and gives you the life loss and "mind control" effect this deck wants. But I think it would be fun in almost any red deck. P

I built Marchesa to counter my friends' op decks. It gets the job done, but you're the archenemy from the beginning of the game, so watch out for that.

Those life gain lands are bad in this deck. You don't wanna be at 41 when opponents are at 40, expecially since Dethrone works with tied life totals.

Why would you play the gain land if you are 40? Just play that land after combat.

Earlygame you're not going to want to play a land that makes you have the highest life total. But you still have to play a land. Lategame you're not going to want to play a land that enters tapped (usually).

You should add Judith, the Scourge Diva since she can ping players when things die could be useful for lowering your life or getting rid of some of the smaller token creatures and her anthem is a plus

A bit late but you are missing a great card for this deck: Treasonous ogre. It gives you so much life fixing and combo potential since you can pay 3 life for a red mana. Also it can get you a huge advantage early since you can play pretty much any card in the deck on turn 4 or 5 (at the cost of life which honestly you don't care about early).

Super cool deck! And I think that Tibalt the Fiend-blooded might work well in this deck. His ultimate is very relevant to the decks play style and his minus can punish any players that hold on to their creatures rather than play them.

Man this one looks great... too bad the people I play with would hate it. I might just buy it anyways. Would love a breya deck (if that’s possible) or another group hug/political commander! Also if you see this and don’t mind answering, what’s your general path to choosing how to fix mana. Been building my own breya deck (why I want to see you build one, a thopter tribal could come out kinda cheap) and always feel like my mana base is off no matter how I switch things up. I’m not even on that much of a budget having a few check lands and burn lands. Besides that keep up the good work. Glad your channels been rising so fast! Felt like it was only a month ago you were at 25k subs and you did a 50k video a few days ago congrats!

Can't you go infinite with marchesa, a free sac outlet, and a creature with undying. If It doesn't have a counter in it, it comes back with one because of undying, and if it does have a counter marchesa revives it

Only thing that wrecks this deck is the fact that you can't permanently steal commanders cause they can send them to the command zone instead of the grave. So it's pretty weak against voltron decks like the one ponch man deck.
