Not gonna lie I figured this video would be like all other punch needle tutorials but there is so much more experience and detail in this walkthrough and the rectangle end product actually looks really good considering its a rectangle. Really great video, I'll definitely be referring to your channel for punch needle work from now on :)

The other day I ordered monks cloth. Then a couple of days later I seen ur video about the best cloth to use and u said the monks cloth with the lines. I looked at my order and I didn't order the ones w the lines. Hopefully it's not to tight of material. But I'm still excited to give it a try and it'll be good practice to see if it's something I want to keep doing. I've got the needle, yarn and hoop.

Give it a try, it still somewhat works! But if the loops won’t stay in quite right, don’t be discouraged. The kind with the lines works much better. Good luck!! 😊😊

Thank you for such a great video! I was wondering if the spacing of stitches vary depending on the weight of your yarn? Or will it always be 6 stitches per inch for outline and 4 stitches per inch for filling. Thank you!

How to you have such beautiful close together loops underneath? Mine have such big gaps and the top of my fabric looks similar to yours?
@mariannickhalai4805
@mariannickhalai4805 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, I've just started punch needle embroidery a short while ago and I've more or less overcome basic hurdles, but when it comes to filling I'm still struggling. Sometimes when it is densely packed, or I need to get very close to another section/colour, my punch needle will poke into an already existing back loop and push it out, therefore I end up ruining that stich. I have to undo many many stitches to go back to that one and start again. Very frustrating. I don't seem to find anyone speaking about that problem, would you have any idea on how to overcome this problem? Thank you very much :)
@MarchingNorth
@MarchingNorth 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I’ve had that happen loads of times as well! I usually deal with it similarly to how you have been, but I know it helps to keep a bit of space between punches. Not enough that it shows on the front side, but enough to keep the back nice and neat. Honestly, its something that comes with practice and I’m certainly not perfect at it myself. Good luck!!

What needles and fabrics do you recommend and where from specifically m
@MarchingNorth

Your best bet is either with an Oxford punch needle, or there is an adjustable punch needle by Lavor that is also pretty good and more affordable. Here is my affiliate link for the adjustable Lavor punch needle (comes in 2 sizes 4mm or 5.5mm): tidd.ly/3Yi4fcm And here is my affiliate link for the #10 Regular Oxford punch needle: tidd.ly/3YCK3lb As for fabric, I recommend using Monk's cloth- and be careful because there are two kinds of Monk's cloth and one works better for punch needle than the other. Here's a link to a good one: tidd.ly/40CMZA1 I hope that helps! Thanks for stopping by!

hello! i bought a wooden punch needle and the problem i have with it is that the wood is ribbing against my yarn when it’s going through causing my yarn to not move and because of that the stitches are popping out...do you have a way to make it’s smooth on the inside?
@MarchingNorth
@MarchingNorth 3 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I’m not sure how you could smooth it out- there are some not so great punch needle out there that have problems like that. I’m sorry you’re having issues!

How do you keep it from running? For example if I wanted to make a rug?
@MarchingNorth
@MarchingNorth 4 жыл бұрын
It’s surprisingly sturdy! Once you get all the loops in place they stay in place from the pressure and friction of the yarn and the fabric. Especially if you use traditional rug wool to punch with, it really stays in place well. Sometimes people suggest to put glue on the back, but it actually breaks down and ruins the rug over time and is totally not necessary. Check out the Oxford company website, Amy Oxford is very knowledgeable when it comes to punch needle rugs. Hope that helps 😊

Does the thickness of the yarn keep the stitches in place?
@MarchingNorth
@MarchingNorth 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it does, plus the pressure of the loops pushing against each other holds everything in nice and secure 😊

Can someone help please for some reason when I punch through the needle n pull the yarn out the other side n than I start punching. the other loops just come out of the holes I poked them through . What am I doing wrong?
@MarchingNorth
@MarchingNorth 3 жыл бұрын
It’s hard to say without seeing, but it could be too much tension in the yarn (there has to be lots of slack and no tension), it could be the wrong fabric, if the punch needle isn’t threaded correctly that can happen, etc. Check out this beginner’s guide I put together, it might help you out! www.marchingnorth.com/punch-needle-for-beginners/

Hello, so I’m making a rug with a canvas I was wondering if the front was the design or the back? Because the front side looks good but the back looks horrible
@MarchingNorth
@MarchingNorth 4 жыл бұрын
It depends, you can use either side for the front. Traditionally, the loops are the front, but a lot of people use the flat side as the front as well. The loop side will look much better once it’s finished and you go in and poke and prod all the loops into place. When a design has a lot of fine details, I usually use the flat side as the front because it’s easier to get the details to look clear. I hope that helps! Thanks for stopping by! 😊

I haven’t used that punch needle myself, but I looked it up and checked out the reviews on Amazon and many people said the inside of the needle is rough and won’t allow the yarn to flow through freely which would make the loops slip out. I’m so sorry you’re having a bad experience! If you want to try a different punch needle the Lavor adjustable one is decent and not too expensive. Here’s a link so you can see it www.wholepunching.co.uk/products/adjustable-punch-needle-free-yarn-sample-wooden
