On this road there is a clear marking that one should not stop on the road.. why where both cars halted there.. and moreover both the cars had enough time to drive away from this famous elephant crossing..

This is the main highway connecting Ramnagar to Marchula through Mohan Range in Jim Corbett National Park and there are specific stretches on this road which are elephant corridors. Its a common practice in this area whenever anyone sees an elephant, they have to stop their vehicle and stay silent. That’s why these vehicles are standing silent. Tusker is the group leader of the herd of elephants which can be seen moving the cars to clear the way for its members and is responsible for their safe passage If vehicles move, tusker can get annoyed and topple the vehicle. So the best possible practice here is to stop the vehicle and wait silently. In the worst possible case, the people inside have to come out of the car and run for their life. I have heard that tusker can run at a speed of around 60 km/hour and is very dangerous
