I struggled with Tabitha's argument, but the bus boycott comparison helped a ton. It really is fairly easy to think of any excuse as to why one can't fully participate in revolution; and that made me realize why true revolutionaries exist in such few numbers. Smh, great discussion though. Thanks Marc!

Tab wants to continue the lifestyle she's become accustomed to as a result of mass marketing -bottom line. That's what rubs me wrong; this boycott doesn't affect all her businesses - just the biggest moneymaker. I'm also immediately turned off when people slide into their _benevolence fund_ church voice anytime they need folks' money. We have public figures sacrificing their entire livelihood for liberation, but she's worried they might no longer be able to travel on Emirates. That whole Black capitalism church comedy crew that hangs out together will always put their own pockets first and Kevonstage is LOUD about doing anything for a dollar. I'm not shocked or disappointed in Tab, really. It was coming.

I understand what Ms. Tab is saying, but to even buy black-owned brands at Target is still supporting Target. I don't want to give them even a percentage of my little coins. I don't want to even be seen on their surveillance cameras walking into their stores and browsing their aisles. I will continue to support Tab, but through her own website. This is why our wise elders have always taught and pushed us to invest back into ourselves and stop asking for a seat at "their" table. Companies like Target know how to play the long game when it comes to economics, politics, and their bottom line. They will happily give us a chance to have our products on their shelves because it drives black/brown/female consumers to their aisles and to the registers. They don't mind a black person coming in there to buy your $15 shampoo or $50 air fryer if it means that black people are also going to walk out of there with a TV and microwave. I hate that it's so many popular retail stores that are discontinuing this policy, because honestly, everyone has something in their home from either Walmart, Sam's, Target. and so on. I hope these milli-/billionaire blacks can put their funds and resources together to create our own economic geomagnetic storm.

What is the boycott plan? Did Uncle Al present our ppl with a detailed plan of action of what we plan to do about marketplaces FOR US, BY US? Did he present us a plan for how we get away from begging "mommy and daddy" to take us seriously or for allowance or we kick and scream for "mommy and daddy" to give us what we say we want and need? I haven't seen one. Its always blk ppl get riled up, get emotional and let's try to get mommy and daddy to play ball with us. But is there a plan for where black people should shop for groceries and other items? When supermarkets and other stores charge an arm and leg on already inflated prices but Walmart has the lowest price... My thing is this. STOP gathering black ppl to be emotional and reactionary and give us some real short AND long term plans. Do we need to boycott THIS SECOND? Or would it be more powerful to actually come up with a long term sustainable plan that will put us in a better position for ourselves? We have to understand when WE are being played and used BOTH WAYS by BOTH SIDES. And when our so called leaders are employed by one side. From what I see none of this actually helps us.

@ my point is if you are successful you should be smart enough to know how America works. Black folk don’t have the monolithic power we once had, so boycotting huge corporations like Target are useless. Tabitha is correct in her assessment, attempting to boycott only hurts the black businesses that thrive in Target. Also, studies show DEI benefited black folk the LEAST. We need strategic thinking not emotional outrage.

Aren't we using the term "boycott" wayyyyyyy too loosely? If we look at the labor movement and how boycotts were historically organized- these social media declarations are hardly organized boycotts.... and we never educate and organize IRL or sustain long enough for these social media "boycotts" of today to really take root. Social media organizing falls into the same trap that Occupy did- realizing that a decentralized, leaderless movement still needs nodes of structure and responsible, accountable people to coordinate together We also need to reimagine what changes need to be made in the face of globalization. Capitalism has taken such a different form that yesterday's tactics need to be refreshed for these mega- conglomerates

Also people will need alternatives to essential services. I live in a working class/poor part of the Twin Cities where WalMart, an office store, a fabric store, a clothing store, a check-cashing store were all demolished for a stadium and it's likely about to lose Cub Foods and Dollar Tree. Aldi is several blocks down but otherwise area will become a food desert if not for the Super Target (it's one of the *busiest* ) right there. During the bus boycotts, black organizations helped at least organize carpools and cab companies to fill in the void. So in some places it won't be enough to just tell people not to shop- Target has become some folks' main source of food so we may have to help organize food drives in those areas

What The Whyte establishment knows is we are impatient so they'll wait us out because a bann to no longer support won't last past a month and as usual we'll begin to shop (SECRETLY) by ordering online and NOTHING CHANGES. as for HIV meds how h8ful can someone be to fk with medz that keep ppl healthy .. A point worth noting, by eliminating their DEI initiatives, the people who look like us will be fired and laid off--many have already received notice; these small business brands will no longer be carried or available by super stores. Super stores ain't pick up products by us and for us to support us--they did so to get our money. We definitely need plans, strategy, and solutions to ALL of our issues that aren't dependent on any system created to continue our oppression. We need to operate within our own systems.

Luv you Marc but this is might be the first time I disagree. Tabitha’s message is messy & I’m not surprised by it. However, I think it’s fine to boycott Target & other MAGA supporting businesses, but make an exception for products from minority-owned businesses. We can do both, & doing both can potentially send a stronger message with sharper political & economic teeth. You’re making a huge assumption about Tabitha Brown’s financial position: I would not be surprised if boycotting her business could be debilitating to her, unless she’s worth tens of millions of dollars, idk 🤷🏽‍♀️ I hope you rethink your position & (re)examine the economic data. Alternatively, we need to think about how the boycott will impact her & other Black owned businesses, & include that calculation in our decision to boycott. This deserves more unpacking. We will not win by throwing members of our community under the bus: neither materially nor if only through optics. If boycotting her won’t actually harm her, then we need to know that for sure & make it clear.

OK, so when I had to take my time out to think about this because I’m hearing both sides of especially regarding boycott. I will save this in this counters counters, what you said Marcus, Dr. Hill. If a person goes into a store say target it only buys black products. It’s not about putting the money in the target pocket at that point it’s about making them notice. If only the black products of purchase and everything else isn’t moving I guarantee you that exactly are going to notice that before they even really fully notice a boycott. One because you’ve already boycotting all the other items you would normally buy so they still wouldn’t sell to the black cells or the black products would actually increase. You have now stated your demand that way they’re gonna go all this does put money in our pocket, we need to increase the black products in the store. You have actually effectively created a reason for them to continue and to increase black products in the store. I say this as a person That is around data driven decisions every day. If you make the data push them to a decision they need to make sometimes that is better than a full on boycott. In this instance, I believe that buying all black products I only just Tabatha because I won’t purchase her. But if I was to go into target I would go in and buy all the other black products of those, especially those we know we haven’t heard of just to purchase them Probably them thrown away cause I don’t use them, but just to purchase them to make that statement, loud and clear. We don’t buy enough of those products in target and we went in and bought all of those products. Yes, we put money in their pocket, but we also have said these are only products that we are going to purchase at this time and if you want to continue this kind of relationship, then you need to increase these products and bring backDEI. If that doesn’t work, then you do the full on boycott. At that point it’s not about convenience. It is about making a statement and saying what we will only do and what we only prefer. We may actually cancel more white products out and bring in more black ones at this point do we need DEI because our dollars have been forced them to bring in Black people only. Do we just turn target black? I’m just thinking as a alternative because I can see where the data supports that type of action where it’s not a full on boycott it is just a you brought in these Black people and these are the only people we are going to support or we will not support at all Until you change your mind. And we need to put the pressure on target. I don’t care about the pressure put on Walmart or the other company on Sam’s Club because they have chosen not to care and they are approving that time and time again in the past. But target has pretended that they cared and we are shocked by the decision so why not turn up the heat and instead of making it a boycott make it that we purchase those products or even better let’s go picketing in front of the place. I’m talking pitchforks ,cards and all.

I disagree Miss TB. --We are in a new day and time. --Consumers are migrating to other sources of selling and buying.--I believe we all need to “shift.” -- We ALL need to re-adjust, creators and consumers.

Bro legit started the show half stepping on the NFL boycott then spends a bulk of his time going in on Tabitha. Less energy spent on actual adversaries so you can focus harder on one of our own that doesn't line up 100%. Purity in a filthy world is a wild mentality to hold

Do we really know enough to say that the deadly force was justified by the police? I don't support what the January 5th insurrection did either. But I refuse to make a snap judgment without hearing more.

I'd be very surprised if a lot of people boycotted target. It's one of the few commercial stores we actually shop at lol

I do not agree with Tabitha…Setting up a solid distribution channel is EASY when you have the monetary resources! All those Black Brands in retail can come together and make this happen!
