Actually, since the 2011 return, this is only the second ballad to compete. 'Grande Amore' could be a ballad also, but it's opera pop. About Diodato, the contest was canceled. Therefore only 'Brividi' and 'Due Vite' are Italian ballads to go on ESC stage. I think it's very few ballads for a country which have in that genre its signature. Anyway Sanremo is not designed in order to choose a song for ESC, so whatever is, it is.
