Marco Polo- A Tribute to the life of a classic cruise ship

The Marco Polo was the first cruise ship I ever worked for and spent the majority of my 3 contracts on her. She literally was my home.
I have seen places and traveled to corners of the earth that i could only imagine so here's a video to celebrate her life as she has reached her final destination.
All footage has been recorded from either my camera of phone through out the last 3 years, with exception some snippets from the shows that I took from our wonderful technician.

I was so sad to hear that my favourite liner is to be no more. The Marco Polo was a survivor from another age. She was a beautiful lady, her kind shall not come again. Farewell my lovely. Thanks for posting this video.

We were on the Marco Polo about a year before she was scraped and she was looking very tired and worn out She was long overdue for retirement

I was amazed at all the comments about this ship.l I, together with lots of other passengers experienced very different experience when we went to the Caribbean some years ago on this wreck of a ship. . We could not sleep in our cabins as we had vermin, rats, mice running, scratching etc., in the panels surrounding the cabins, and in spite of many complaints to all and sundry in charge of this ship nothing was done about it, not even the Captain! The funnels on this ship were not covered and we suspect that was where the rats entered the ship. Customer Service was shocking, and no one offered to spend a night in our cabins to witness this. I still have nightmares about this. A large group of us tried to get professional help but Solicitors told us they could do nothing for us as it was such a common complaint on cruise liners. Never again will I go in a cruise!

I did a 10 day New Zealand with her. A helicopter came, landed on the helipad, and took us flying through the Fiords. Part of her beauty was her smaller size. She could go anywhere. Thank you Marco Polo for some of the best times of my life. You'll be missed!

Sailed on her when we returned from Canada in November 1979. She was then operated as the Alexander Pushkin by the Baltic Shipping Company. The voyage was from Montreal to Tilbury and should have taken 9 days, however we hit a huge hurricane in the North Atlantic with a 20m+ swell, yes that's right a 20m+ swell. This added a further 5 days to our journey. The ship, I believe was built initially as a Arctic research vessel so came with a highly strengthened hull. During the hurricane the passengers were not allowed on deck due to the 140mph+ winds, and she sustained some cosmetic damage as we were hit by several rogue waves, but coped well with the conditions. Since then I have been fortunate to sail on a great number of other cruise ships but none as tough as her I have to say, considering her age was built like a floating battle tank. I was hoping after the pandemic to travel on her again but was saddened to hear that CMV had gone into liquidation and she is now to be scrapped.

Spent a year of my life on Marco Polo in 1995/6 when she sailed for Orient Lines. I worked on many ships over the years but this one was always my favorite with some great memories. Very sad to see her go.

I'm so sad I never got to go on her. I'm a fan of the huge ships but I really wanted to get a chance to go on her. Good luck to the crews and all CMV staff.

CMV certainly had a unique fleet the likes of which will never been seen again. I nearly got to go on the Marco Polo in 2015 but then CMV got the Magellan and we were swapped over. It looks like a lovely old style ship.

I sailed on the Marco Polo to Antarctica right before she was sold and sailed to Europe. What a wonderful experience!!

This ship i remember my uncle work here as crew in almost 10 years then he was transferred in another ship in thomson cruise in 2005 now He was retired now and enjoy his life.
