People from the Netherlands will probably remember that till the mid 80s we only had Dutch football on TV but when Gullit, Rijkaard and Van Basten played for AC Milan, we got an entire program dedicated to them and the Italian league. There was no internet so you didn't know anything until they showed the highlights and believe me, they hardly ever disappointed.

Messi it was an amazing player between 2008-12, before(2005-08) didn't exist and after that just he lives by the past glory that his team mates Xavi and iniesta achieved and he got the glory of them, since 2012 isn't anymore Messi, is better to be call him "Pessi". As a child this man was my absolute idol! You forget things thou as you get older, so I watch back now and then, it always amazes me just how powerful his shooting was, I mean he was LASER accurate, but the power he strikes 98% of his shots with is astounding! Like how can he hit the ball so effortless yet so hard? Even his headers, he absolutely launches them. He has something I can't quite explain, it's like his vision is robotic, like it tells him exactly when and where to strike a football to create the absolute maximum force. And another remarkable thing with him, which I've never seen since, he plays against world class world renowned players, but he is super confident and composed. It's kinda like as thou he's playing football on the school yard, and he's miles better and older than all the other kids. His level is insane, he doesn't even doubt he's going to score, he just makes the perfect touch, dribble, feint, pause whatever til he strikes the ball flawlessly! I read somewhere Cruyffs team talk once concisted something like, "Just get the ball to Marco, that's it!" You will never see a player as good in front of goal as this ever again

What a player he was. Not only the greatest all-round striker I saw but one who also created a lot of chances for his teammates. He must have been the dream striking partner. So crazy to think he was having ankle operations as early as 1986, but was top of Europe, if not the world, in 1988 and stayed there for years. His retirement made me feel a genuine sense of loss and reading that he was in so much pain from his ankle that he had to crawl from his bed to go to the bathroom at night because the bone on bone scraping in his ankle was so excruciating... That was so sad. He was robbed, we were all robbed, but the career he had was still incredible.

Never seen a striker like him. He had incredible balance. He could carry the ball and go past anyone. He could head the ball better than most. He could hit the ball from 30 yards out from both right and left foot. In the box he could be a poacher. He also delivered everything with great style. He also played in the dirties league at the time (Serie A ) where there was no protection for players. I would always have him in a worlds best XI. Truly a magnificent player.

BUT, with due respect, R9...El Phenomenal, was dubbed that for a reason!! 28 to 34...hmm..there's no guarantee Marco would have won a World Cup, shone in a further two global plus Euro Comps. It's speculation. IMO, Van Basten was a better header of the ball than Ron...but for pace, power, skill, big game performances, edge o your seat thrills...fame breaking moments....!!! See World Cup '98 Brazil v Netherlands....what a game!! See Brazil v Turkey...twice, in Korea and Japan 2002!!! See Germany v Brazil 2002 World Cup Final!!!! Van Basten, Romário, Gerd Müller, Ronaldo Nazário and Cr7 are my favorite strikers. All of them are great, different styles, but fantastic guys. . Even being brazilian, if I had to choose one for my team, just a PERSONAL CHOICE, that would be MARCO VAN BASTEN. PS - Nowadays, I love to see Lewandowski.
