Boffins say the eight minute track, called Weightless, is so effective at inducing sleep it should not be listened to while driving. Carefully arranged harmonies, rhythms and bass lines help to slow the heart rate, reduce blood pressure and lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Manchester trio Marconi Union worked with sound therapists to create the soothing tune, which also slows breathing and reduces brain activity. Scientists played the song to 40 women and found it to be more effective at helping them relax than songs by Enya, Mozart and Coldplay. The study - commissioned by bubble bath and shower gel firm Radox Spa - found the song was even more relaxing than a massage, walk or cup of tea. The women were connected to sensors and given challenging puzzles to complete against the clock in order to induce a level of stress. They were then played different songs as their heart rate, blood pressure, breathing and brain activity were recorded. Studies found Weightless was 11 per cent more relaxing than any other song and even made many of the women "drowsy" in the lab. It induced a 65 per cent reduction in overall anxiety and brought them to a level 35 per cent lower than their usual resting rates. The song features guitar, piano and electronic samples of natural soundscapes. It is pierced throughout by buddhist-like chants that induce a trance-like state. Lyz Cooper, founder of the British Academy of Sound Therapy, said Marconi Union had used scientific theory to make the "perfect relaxing song". She said: "The song makes use of many musical principles that have been shown to individually have a calming effect. "By combining these elements in the way Marconi Union have has created the perfect relaxing song. "The study found this to be the world's most relaxing song. "It contains a sustaining rhythm that starts at 60 beats per minute and gradually slows to around 50. "While listening, your heart rate gradually comes to match that beat. "It is important that the song is eight minutes long because it takes about five minutes for this process, known as entrainment, to occur. "The fall in heart rate also leads to a fall in blood pressure. "The harmonic intervals - or gaps between notes - have been chosen to create a feeling of euphoria and comfort. "And there is no repeating melody, which allows your brain to completely switch off because you are no longer trying to predict what is coming next. "Instead, there are random chimes, which helps to induce a deeper sense of relaxation. "The final element is the low, whooshing sounds and hums that are like buddhist chants. "High tones stimulate but these low tones put you in a trance-like state." She added: "Sound therapy has been used for thousands of years to help people relax and improve health and well-being. "Music was at the heart of healing and worship among indigenous cultures. "Anybody who lives under a flight path or near a busy road appreciate the effect sounds can have on your stress levels. "Weightless is ideal for putting on at the end of a stressful day and unwinding." Dr David Lewis-Hodgson, from Mindlab International, which conducted the research, said: "The results clearly show that the track induced the greatest relaxation - higher than any of the other music tested. "Brain imaging studies have shown that music works at a very deep level within the brain, stimulating not only those regions responsible for processing sound but also ones associated with emotions. "In fact, Weightless was so effective, many women became drowsy and I would advise against driving while listening to the song because it could be dangerous." Richard Talbot, from Marconi Union, said: "It was fascinating working with a therapist to learn how and why certain sounds affect people's mood. "I always knew the power of music but we have previously written using gut feeling." Cassie Shuttlewood, from Radox Spa, said: "Most of us feel stressed every day but Radox understands that it's not necessary to spend hundreds of pounds on massages, spa weekends and yoga retreats in order to relax."

I can see how this would make sense. They say our heart can imitate the rhythm in music, so by having added the sound of a slow heart beat in the background, our heart begins to become in sync with it. Thus calming us down, correct me if I'm wrong.
@autumin68436 жыл бұрын
Nina Danaë yeah I think I read somewhere that your heart beats to the beat of the music you’re listening to and that different rhythms can affect your emotions but what might cause anxiety to could calm down others and vice versa

I thought I’d write something because, I’ve just been reading a bunch of comments that help me feel better but I haven’t actually commented. My extreme anxiety all started with a bad trip from smoking to much weed, I thought I was gonna die, and have a heart attack, I literally felt all the sensations of one. This extreme traumatic moment has spiraled into me not wanting to eat no more and loss of appetite due to anxiety, and fear of throwing up, and or getting nauseas. I went to the doctor and he said everything looked fine my heart, and my lungs sound normal. I’m gonna get some tests done from my blood and some heart tests just to give me a peace of mind. I’m trying to get through this as this all started two days ago and, through research and relaxation methods I have finally been able to calm myself down a bit and begin eating again. This is the worst thing I’ve felt in a long time, hopefully my life can return back to normal, and I don’t stay with this extreme anxiety because I don’t want it to consume my life. Cold sweats and nausea are my most common symptoms, also feel light headed maybe due to the less eating and anxiety or both. I pray to god that I feel better soon, because I still have dreams i wanna accomplish, and a boyfriend and a family that I love so much. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy, this is such a horrible feeling. Does anyone have tips for nausea caused by anxiety I really don’t wanna Mel nourish myself, thank you I hope all of you get better ❤️

⭐️ Update ⭐️ I feel so much better now, honestly just talking about it to your friends and being vulnerable enough to tell them what’s happening and how you are feeling. Relieves so much of the anxiety but you have to be willing to open up. I have no more nausea and my anxiety has reduced significantly. What helped me was watching videos like this and or people who are also dealing with anxiety and reading all the supporting comments and people telling there stories. Another thing going to the doctor just so you can have a peace of mind and make sure you really aren’t experiencing anything else, it’s important to seek profesional help. I posted how I was feeling on my personal Snapchat and instagram, where all my closest friends and family were. You wouldn’t believe that amazing support that I got from them, almost completely cured me from the horrible, horrible symptoms I was experiencing. I made sure to schedule an appointment with a therapist, that I will be seeing on the 5th. Just allow yourself to be vulnerable and let people in because they do wanna help, I promise 💗 You have so much to offer the world needs you, your loved ones need you. Please stay strong, I know you’ll get through this because I did. Tips- Guided sleep meditating videos by Jason are amazing! Drink protein shakes if you are nauseous and can’t eat, it’s a great way of getting your nutrients without having to feel so nauseous, with whole food’s. Google! Quora has a great supporting and positive community with so many questions that you probably have, and the answers to them. Breathing techniques, practice them, your not in danger your gonna be okay, remember you can’t control your anxiety or it’ll get worse. Talk to people! Wether it’s on the phone or through social media or text, do it let people know how your feeling the majority of the people I came to were dealing with the same problems. Anxiety and depression are normal and millions of people have it, your not alone 💕

I found this song on Pinterest. Supposedly it lowers your blood pressure. “It works so well, people recommend to not listen to it while driving.”

Psychiatrist recommended this because I've been having a lot of panic attacks lately, I'm out of meds and came here to try to find relief.....but it made my chest feel heavy and like I could get a breathe and that constant ringing sound is the background just makes me feel uneasy and overstimulated

Nothing ruins the calm like some loud commercials in the middle of your meditation.

Meditation is to train you to be calm during situations that normally wouldn’t make you calm. Those ads are a perfect example of how you can practice meditation even deeper.
