I've been living in the Philippines for 20 years, the average worker spends 30% of their wage on travel to and from work. Food is cheap if you go to the right spots, you can't be going to restaurants or star bucks. Most office buildings have people selling food in the fire escapes, or on the back streets they have jolly jeepnees, 70 piso 2 dishes with rice and a 7up for lunch is about normal. Most people cook their own food and take it to work to save money. My wife is well paid but she still takes her merienda to work because she has worked before on min wage.

Didn't like Manila so we skipped that chance. Two family's on youtube live in BGC - MOM DUTY and LIVE THE PHILIPPINES. Mom Duty & family live in an expensive condo - 3k sq ft. lots of AC and one of their bills could have built a regular family a nice home. Don't forget most folks work 6 days a week. On with the show.

i'm pretty sure i could do it. for like 10 years i have been living on less than 1/2 of minimum wage here in the USA, and i am able to save up a bit of money each month so i can still party, buy a few drinks, and go on vacations and things. people say minimum wage here is unlivable, but in most cases, if they're single, what they are really saying is that they don't know how to manage their money. so ya, i think i could do minimum wage in the Philippines, but only after i found where i wanted to live, became more fluent in the language, and became known in the area so i wasn't getting charged the tourist price for everything. i'm actually planning on moving to the Philippines, so ill let you know if i can do it when i get there. OH! and i have no interest in living in BGC or any other big city. i've never liked big cities. i'm more interested in small cities and towns out in the provinces where i can easily grow food and go camping, hunting, and fishing

I guess my wife hung on a little too tight because the driver asked her if she had ever been on this kind of ride before. That P600 a day can be survive to ordinary filipino people in average living condition but impossible to people in good social standing level and burden for them. For food alone to average people expenses daily is cheaper than the cost of having the social lifestyle needs. If someone is dependent of the food meals from the restaurant everyday and not coming from home made meals then everyone goes to financial trouble.Financial management and financial literacy for P600/day earning must have a smart decision making.

I can survive $11 a day there if I have my own unit and no debt, no family to support. 2/3 of that $11 will be spent on health insurance though so it's really trying to live off $4 a day -- that is tough now that I think about it. Make it an even (odd?) $20 a day where half is for health insurance and the $10 is for my daily COLA.

@@marcoroams Nothing done yet my friend. Those were just estimates. I''m turning 52y. Still need to work until 55y old or 3 more year then maybe I have enough to do pre-early retirement in Philippines. I was able to purchase $150K 1-BR condo in Legazpi Village, Makati last year. So I just need to save $70K within these 3 years which is doable assuming I keep my job. Like I said in my prior post, half of that goes to health insurance (costs about $5K a year) and 1/4 goes to entertainment so really my COLA budget is a tight $17.5K for about 6 years -- now that is attempting to live below the minimum wage of Manila. Three years, ah.... so near yet so far.

Philippines has probably the most number of MALLS in the world and that's because almost all of them go in them. In other "rich" countries, they have 1 mall per city? 😊 In Manila ALONE, there's probably a THOUSAND ALREADY 😊

If most workers got 600 peso a day they would be stoked I think you find out majority get about 300 peso if they are lucky unless maybe you are a professional

That’s really sad, I don’t know how they do it, it’s not a particularly cheap country if you want anything decent

@@marcoroams 100% but for some reason they always smile and find a way to survive believe me
